Hi I have a question. My cat just licked an Advil allergy pill. She didn't bite into it however I did see some white powder from the pill on her tongue. She's two years old and 11LBS. Will she be ok?

I've never had an experience with a cat doing something like that.  How is she now?

I am a human doctor, not a vet and any advice that I give about a cat should be checked by a veterinarian.  Advil is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), masquerading as a painkiller, and I understand that NSAIDs are toxic for felines.

The degree of feline illness depends on the amount eaten. Your cat may well be alright if only a small amount is taken, but I suggest that you contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.

With all best wishes,

Geoffrey

I would call the vet right away and explain what happen. The vet will be able to determine if your cat needs to be brought in right away for monitoring and treatment or if you can just watch the cat at home for any symptoms before bringing the cat in. The coating on a pill might not be too harmful but if your cat ate or licked any part of the pill under the coating, that can be harmful. I'm not sure how much a cat would need to eat or lick to become ill but just assume all Human medicines are toxic to cats and vet treatment shoudl be given right away.
