Cat is obsessed with water bowl, drags it around until it's all dumped out

This is a bit of an odd dilemma. My cat, Milo, is three years old, male, fixed, and an "only pet." I've had him for a year and he's always been obsessed with water. He loves sitting on the ledge of my bath while I take a shower, playing in the tub after I turn off the shower (when it's still a little wet), etc.

When I brought him home, I had a plastic water bowl with a refillable jug attached for him. He soon started dragging the water bowl across the apartment — literally wrapping his arm around the bowl and pulling it towards him. When I came home from work, there would be water all over the floor and the bowl would be empty.

I replaced the bowl with a ceramic dish that was much heavier. Milo initially tried to move the bowl, but it was too heavy so he stopped. This behavior stopped for several months. Then, just last week, it started again! Somehow, he got the strength to move this ceramic bowl across the apartment, so the same thing is happening — all his water will be on the floor and the bowl will be empty.

I don't know what to do. Any advice for a replacement bowl that will be heavy enough to stay put? I'm worried he's bored, but he does have toys to play with while I'm at work, and a window that he likes to stare out of. I was thinking about getting a little water fountain if he wanted to watch the water, but I don't know if he'll just try to move that too.

Sounds like he's bored to death. Definitely try the water fountain - he probably won't drag it, but splash around in it. And maybe you can get him some interactive toys. Then, live crickets (to be had in any store that sells reptiles) are always a good distraction, and a healthy treat, too (the Rogue loved to sit on top of the small terrarium where I kept his "pets"). And, if at all possible, maybe you can think about getting him a playmate?

Thanks for your response! I did get a water fountain and you're right, it's been a few days and he hasn't tried to drag it. He splashes it a little bit and also seems to like watching it. I'm looking into more interactive toys I can get him - he LOVES his circular toy with a light-up ball on the track. I just got him a box with holes - you put a ball or a treat inside and the cat is supposed to get it out. He hasn't seemed too interested in that yet, but it's new. I was also thinking of putting his dry food in one of those feeding puzzles, to give him some extra stimulation during the day. Any other ideas?

Unfortunately, a playmate is out of the question for now. :( And I'm a little skeeved out by the crickets -- I live in a studio apartment.
