Hard to say without knowing a bit of background on the cat.
My kitten will give me 'love bites' when he's being overly affactionate. He'll be purring, kneading his paws etc then he'll give me a nip on the chin or face, not hard though and definately not as an aggressive thing. Maybe thats what she's doing.
Feral cats who have been 'tamed' are quite famous for the jekyl and hyde thing of being friendly then suddenly biting or scratching for no reason. But I assume you would have mentioned if this were a feral cat.
Maybe she is in pain? Maybe when you stroke her you hit a sore spot which causes her to bite.

Dori does this same thing. Only right after she bites me she starts licking me. The thing is, she bites me really hard. I am always marked up from her. But she doesn't seem to be acting agressive, I don't think she understands it hurts. I have thought she does it because when she was younger I used to always play with her with my hands. Sometimes I would wiggle my fingers for her to pounce at, or her favorite game was for me to hold my hand over her head and then gradually bring it down and try to get it on her head before she attacked. I have tried to break her of those games because of the biting (her teeth are really sharp).

Some cats just do not like being pet, it is just too much stimulation for them. Also, be aware that cats can and do purr when they are in pain. So, if this is something out of the ordinary for this cat, you may want to have it checked by your vet. One of my Pixie Bobs acts this way. She will come up to me purring and meowing her heart out, but when you pet her or try to pick her up, she growls and has a hissy fit. But, she has been doing this as a kitten. She just has an attitude and she is spoiled. She will let you hold and pet her when she feels like it and no other time.

Lucy sometimes bites me, but never hard enough to break the skin, or even leave marks, she also immediately starts licking me afterwards. I think she is just playing/showing affection. (she licks me to show she doesn't mean any harm). She also grabs my hand with just the tip of her claws extended (again never enough to leave a mark) and pulls it to her mouth to start licking it. She is also the only one who sleeps on her back with her belly fully exposed.

Buffy does the same thing! Now it makes alot more sense... And Willow sleeps with her belly showing too
