It finally feels like a fall morning here!  I even made myself waffles, scrambled eggs and apple cinnamon tea for breakfast!  Our house got below 70 for the first time since spring too.

Today's question is inspired by a trip I took recently.  We were able to revisit the site of a friend's wedding about 10 years ago.

What was the most unique wedding you have ever attended?

One of DH's friends from growing up is a train enthusiast.  His 2 year old already has a whole miniature setup hes constantly working on.  He's trying to convince his wife to let him put an outdoor one together with larger trains.

So back when they got married; they included trains of course.
But it was hands down the most beautiful wedding I have ever attended.  This friend had worked with a campground that has trains and tracks that were laid in the 1800s on their property.  The property extends into a beautiful gorge and the tracks hug the side and run through at least 2 tunnels.  This friend helped restore the tracks and helped them get at least one of their engines to pull campers up and down the tracks.  The campers can get off at various points to do things like river tubing and rock climbing.

Their ceremony took place on the side of train tracks with the gorge and river behind them.  The guests rode up the tracks in open train cars; the rock cliffs rising on one side and the drops to the river on the other; through 2 tunnels to a wider spot along the tracks.  A friend played some instrumental guitar music as we rode up.  Then a small cart came behind us with the bride and her father.  The man who drove it was dressed as a conductor.  The guests stayed on the trains to watch.  It was fairly small; about 40 people could fit on the train I think.  After the ceremony they took another small cart further up the tracks out of sight and we rode back to the main campground for the reception.

It was SO beautifully done.  I've been to a few weddings in fancy old churches; but this one stands out.  I love architecture; but natural beauty is hard to compare!  I took some pictures when we were there again; but I'm not sure my phone is capable of conveying the beauty of the area.

:wow: That wedding sound amazing :jaw::clap: No wonder it sticks in your mind!

I've only been to three weddings, and for all three, I was only asked to the reception. To be honest, I don't really remember any of them :anon::lol3: Two were friends of my family, rather than personal friends (if that makes sense ;) ), and the third was a very small affair as my friend really didn't want a lot of fuss - she was much more comfortable in jeans and a jumper and walking her dogs than she was all dressed up at an elegant party :lol3:

The wedding that sticks in my mind was that of a close friend of mine, and she went to Goa and got married on the beach! It sounded absolutely beautiful, and whilst I was asked, I just wasn't able be there :( I did make her wedding jewellery though - a pearl and silver necklace with a silver flower clasp, and pearl drop earrings hung from a flower stud. I made chain-link amber and silver bracelets for the bridesmaids too. The jewellery was my wedding gift to her :D

I was extremely good friends with his first cousin and he asked me to be his date for the event. It was held in NYC, on New Year's Eve at a well known ballet foundation (his wife was a dancer at that time, later appeared in The Sopranos with him).

In attendance was Bruce Springsteen, Martin Scorcese and literally dozens of other stars.  I wore a tuxedo "dress" - wish I kept it.  At one point, we found more than several people in a stairwell snorting cocaine (this was in the 80's when it was rampant).

To say it was a once in a lifetime kind of thing to attend is putting it mildly!

Apparently the people I know aren't very creative about weddings. I can't think of any that were really creative, though some were very nice.

My brother and SIL got married at a public park, with their children as flower girl and ring bearer. My niece was only 18 months old, and made a break for the playground, which I guess looked more fun than throwing flower petals! My mom had to go catch her and then she screamed for the rest of the ceremony :lol3:.

My cousin had the nicest wedding I've been to. Her in-laws really like to bake, I guess, so there were about 100 different desserts/cakes. Of course everyone wanted to try them all but nobody could manage that! She also had a professional DJ so that was nice.

Most weddings I've been to are very basic: they get married at a religious place, then everyone goes to the reception hall, eats a meal, then dances. Usually a family member or friend acts as "DJ", which just means they bring their iPod ;).

A co worker of DH's (back when we lived in Denver) was originally from Wyoming. He invited us to his wedding in Casper. It was held on a ranch and all the bridesmaids were barefoot. Is that unique? I thought it was. Every other wedding I have attended was the same cookie cutter run of the mill event. I hate weddings.

No fan of weddings, but one I remember was in Queens, NY. I was a friend & work colleague of the bride for many years. What sticks in my mind is that the bride never once came to our table at the reception. I still consider this to have been extremely bad form.

I've never been to a unique wedding. They were are pretty typical: non religious church ceremony, reception, a looonnng wait for dinner because the bride and groom hadn't arrived yet from taking post-ceremony pictures, no dancing or anything fun. A cousin of mine did get married at the local MLB ballpark but I didn't attend.

About 15 years ago one of my best friends got married. She and her husband had a steampunk wedding and I was her maid of honour.

The bride wore a full length gold dress. It was a lace-up bodice worn over a corset with a huge bustle effect thing at the back. Long, skin tight skirt. She had waist length dreadlocks dyed bright pink which she put up into a bee-hive type hair-do, held in place with glittery metallic butterfly hair clips. The groom wore a three-piece suit. Black tail-coat with a scarlet lining, black trousers, striped waist-coat.

I think every punk in Bristol made it to the reception. I'm sure I still have some photos of it somewhere. It was a great day.

I went to my sisters wedding in New York a few years ago. That was unique because my sister insisted on an out-door wedding so that everyone could bring their dogs. Her dog, Story, was the bride's maid.

Bride and bride's maid.

I've been to two weddings on boats. They were both interesting because you could relax and watch the scenery go by. :)
