Last night I put a bit of flea / tick medication on my cat. My vet prescribed Paradyn, however, I got a bit mixed up and I accidentally used Hartz Feline medication instead. The bottle is 1.8 ml which seemed like a lot (opposed to Paradyn which is 0.7) and it left a pretty big spot on her neck. I also made the mistake of putting the medication about 1/2 - 1 inch too low on her neck. She certainly didn't like having it put on her and she was able to lick a bit of it on her neck.

I read online about Hartz and the issues other pet owners have faced using their products, and I freaked a bit. After having the medication on her for 10 minutes or so I decided to give her a bath and remove it. The first bath I only used water, but gave her another one a few hours later, this time using palmolive dish soap to make sure the medication was removed.

She licked herself and gave herself a bath for most of the night. She seemed a bit irritated by the medication and was scratching some as well. Other than that, I didn't notice any symptoms. There was a point last night, about 4 - 5 hours after I put the medication on, where she started to gag a bit and looked as though she was going to vomit. She ended up not vomiting at all and the gagging might have just been a result of her bathing herself so much. I didn't notice any salivating or foaming when I saw her lick the medication either. She just jerked her head quite a bit while licking her lips, clearly not happy with the taste.

Is there anything I should be worried about? She has a vet appointment for tomorrow (not related to this incident), but I gave her vet a call this morning anyway. They said they weren't familiar with Hartz products, but didn't think that there was much to worry about. They said it isn't abnormal for a cat to lick a bit of the medication.

Any advice on what I can do, or should do, would be greatly appreciated!

Lets hope for the best!  Good you washed off as much as you could.

Trying to drinking a lot is what comes to my mind.  Milk is an old home remedy with some poisonings. If your cat manages milk?   Do not experiment, if you arent sure she manages...  Just common plain water, as much as you can entice her to.

Holding thumbs, and please report when everything has cleared up!
