We feed our cat a mix of dry and wet food.   He will chew through the dry food bag.  I bought a storage bin with a flip lock top.  At first I thought the kids were feeding him and leaving it unlocked.  But one day I heard a thumping noise and realized it was him - playing with and ultimately unlocking the top and getting into the food.  My son has a weight set, so I took a flat 5 pound weight and put it on top.  The cat unlocks the lid and pushes the weight off.  There is basically nowhere in the house he cannot find his way up to or into.   Any suggestions on something else?  Thank you

Hello,

Something like this would be difficult for your cat to open. You have a very smart cat.

Place the food into a food storage container and then put the container into the fridge. I doubt your cat will be able to muscle open the fridge door
If you buy the really large bags of dry food, then this won't work unless you happen to have a huge walk in fridge. Do you have a basement you could put a large food container into? Or a closet? A door that closes securely with a latch or lock would be best. My cats can push a 10 lb kettlebell around so you might need something more like 20 lbs + to really weigh down the container lid.

Are you feeding your cat enough food? Sometimes hungry cats will seek out food to eat because what they are given daily isn't enough. How much dry and canned food do you feed each day? What brands?

I put dry food in glass gallon jars with metal screw-on lids and store them on the bottom shelf of the lower cabinets so they won't get knocked off and broken. So far none of my cats have managed to open the jars, and I'm pretty sure a couple of them have opposable thumbs. :lol3:

I had to put a baby lock on my doors to keep the cats from getting in to the food. even the doors with handles. Try some baby locks?

MoglI is a little piggy and very adept at opening things. He only gets a few pieces of dry food a day, so I break down a bag and vacuum pack small portions, put them in Tupperware containers (sorted by brand/flavor) , and then put the containers in cabinets with baby locks.
