I mowed the yard this afternoon, maybe for the last time this year, we're not sure yet. While I did that, Rick was busy digging out our cannas and elephant ears from the beds. We still have a lot of cutting down to do, so we're hoping that next weekend will be nice enough to spend outside. It's really blustery outside, but not real cold. A bit on the chilly side. We had flannel shirts and sweatshirts on today.

Meanwhile, I changed the bed sheets this morning. I put some flannel sheets on the bed. Our lows this week will dip into the low 40's, possibly high 30's, and we don't have the heat turned on in the house yet. I mentioned to Rick about flannels and he said he was thinking about them, too, and to go ahead. No electric blanket on the bed. Yet.

Are we the only ones who put flannels on the bed so far? I really mind the chill, so I tend to put them on fairly early.

While I did vacuum about the house this morning, I didn't vacuum/clean out the registers. I should probably do that tomorrow/Monday since I'm off work anyway. That way, if it does get cold, we can turn the heat on in the house. I'd like to wait until the beginning of November to turn heat on, but we'll see how things go.

I've had flannels on the bed for quite a while. I just like the softness. So do the cats. I changed out the more flannel-y ones for ones I just got that are more velvet-y than flannel-y if that makes sense. I love them and the cats love to snuggle on them.

It's sunny and 83 degrees F here in Florida. Life is pretty  much back to normal after Matthew.

I always use flannels, all year long. I don't find them too hot. . .I find smooth sheets to be too sticky.

I haven't put the flannel sheets on yet. I did bring out the down comforter. And placed it right on top of the regular comforter. And there's a fairly heavy microsuede pet blanket across the foot of the bed to keep most of the cat hair off the duvet cover.
I don't like being cold but at the same time I don't turn the heat on until the thermostat reads below 65 F which usually isn't until late November.

We have a set of flannel sheets but we hardly ever use them on our bed.  We have an electric blanket and 4 cats that keep us warm.

The flannel sheets are not yet on the bed BUT

A) the skylight curtains in our bedroom and the shade cloth over the great room skylights are down / off / put away

B) as is the shade cloth for my greenhouse

and

C) the great room furniture is in its winter orientation: couch and love seat focused on wood burning stove rather than as a conversational pairing

I haven't put winter sheets on yet; but I did set the heat so it won't get TOO cold in here.  It hasn't kicked on yet though.  I also broke out the socks for my feet this weekend.  They were chilly.
My DD does not want to put away her summer nightgowns.

Oh curtains
I have to take down my warm weather sheer curtains and put  up the heavy insulated ones. I usually don't do it until the end of daylight savings time. No heat yet. I don't turn that on until the thermostat reads under 65 F which usually isn't until late November or so.

It has been so hot here I just turned the AC off 2 weeks ago.  I live on the 3rd floor and have elderly people on both sides on the 2nd and 3rd floor who like it warm.  Not sure about the girl underneath me because she is new and only in her late teens, early 20tys.

Actually I think the timer is backward in this building.  During the winter it will be cold in the afternoon no mater what I have the heat set at.  Then around 1 or 2 am I will wake up dying of the heat.  (no it's not a female thing)

It is a little chilly tonight so I may close the window in my bedroom.  I will have to do this next week because the are power washing the building and I tend to sleep late.  I may as well do it tonight and then not have to worry about getting up early if they show up early.

It's still a little too soon for us to put the flannels on, but I definitely need to put another blanket on the bed.

Well the heat is on now.  It got down to 67 so I turned it on not long before the kids got up.  I was cold in my robe to the point my nose and toes (in socks) were cold and aching.  So yeah; time for some heat.  Both kids have told me they were cold too.  Hopefully it won't have to stay on; but right now it feels good!

I turned the heat on 8 days ago and put the winter (goose down) duvets on the bed today. It's down in the low 30s at night now, and in the 40s or low 50s during the day. Two weeks ago we were in T-shirts.

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
put my fuzzy blanket down on the bed-Pumpkin face won't sleep on regular sheets-we have this thick microfleece type big blanket that has a john deer tractor on it-this is her bed blanket. normally we don't put this fleece stuff down until November but last night it was 30 out and we ran the furnace this morning. it was 61 in the house-we pulled the AC unit out of the window too. Honeybee has been using it as a perch. We put it on a table right in front of the window-too heavy to carry elsewhere=then I take a big table clothe and pillows and cover it for a cat bed. I still using my linen sheets though. I use those year round. Soon I will put flannel down on my section of the bed,.

About a week ago, I did put the heat on, just to get the chill out.. It is still too soon to keep it on full time.

It was just too damp and chilly for me to go without heat. I hate being cold.. that is one thing, I will splurge: heat and AC...I need it. With my Raynaud's and hypothyroid, I get cold really fast, and are sensitive to extremes in temperature.

I get the morning sun in my apartment, so I love to open up the windows and balcony door a bit to get some fresh air in...

I close them when the sun leaves. Right now I just have the one widow in each bedroom open a tiny bit. I will be closing them soon..

I did put the heat on last night. It did come up once or twice. My bedroom is an inner room (apartment building), so it is a lot warmer than the rest of the place. My vent is shut, although some heat/AC does come through, but not drafty at all..

I have never used flannel sheets. I do have a set of them. I was thinking of trying them out this winter; when it gets really cold and snowy out. I am wondering how they will feel. I like a cool sheet, but I like to be warm at night. I use my heavy bedspread/quilt and a thin blanket during the winter. That is enough for me..

The rest of the place is always cold--poor insulation... especially around windows...so I am bundled up and covered during the day.

Instead of flannel sheets, I now use micro-fibre ones in the winter, but I haven't put them on yet. Probably by the end of October. We've been having pretty warm days and mild nights, but we did have frost a couple nights last week and my thermostat must have gone below 18C because I heard the furnace when I woke up those mornings. It's definitely getting cooler at night though, and Ruby is on her winter schedule of sleeping under the covers with me.
