Thanks guys. I talked to Kathy they are giving her flagyl as a precaution. I just got her permission to do a fecal on Hope. So we will see what that turns up.

I just want to cry. Kathy doen't think that Hope can make it because of her disability. She also thinks it's to severe to repair. I talked to the vet and she said that there is no way to know until they run some tests. The tests are expensive and it's 500-600 just for xray's and a consult at OSU. Where we are a really small rescue that is outside our budget especially for a kitten they believe won't make it. I wan't to cry.

Is there a way to help her at least be comfortable? Should I give her smaller meals more frequently?

You really don't need to worry about the chest impression. I say this because my husband has the exact same diformity and while it does give him discomfort at times it isn't life threatening. He was also born with this condition. I know it's really hard when they are sick, but you are doing a fantastic job! Im praying for you and sending you positive thoughts![emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]10084[/emoji]️

I would not put her down! I don't think the flat chest has anything to do with her being sick right now.

There is absolutely no reason to run a bunch of expensive tests either. Put a vest on her and just see how she grows. She may be able to live just fine.

Are you able to bring her home soon and give her the flagyl yourself? Is she eating again now?

She needs to be given a chance!

I got her home now. She just got home and hasn't ate yet. She just turned her nose up at the food.

Don't worry she will be given a chance by me. I can get her xrayed next month. It will cost a hundred dollars at the rescue's price. From there we can see just how bad it is. Can I make a vest myself? I read the other thread.

Hopefully the kitten will eat later this evening. She's probably too excited right now.

Yes, look at the pictures in that thread, and make the vest yourself with cardboard and yarn. You can even use an empty toilet paper roll. Just cut it to fit. As she grows, you may have to make it bigger. It should help, and certainly won't hurt.

Did they send her home with flagyl?

She was on Pancur and metronidazole for a few more days along with Propactlin twice a day. She is eating good but still has diaherra so bad that she is straining really hard. Poor thing is getting prolasped and I don't know what to do with it. I keep a check and make sure it's pink and wet. I am afraid to call Kathy because I think she will say just put her down. I really can't afford a vet visit til the first of the month. I have actually thought about calling the other rescues that are bigger to see if they can afford to take her in. But they have to promise not to put her down because of an inconvenience and cost.

I honestly think I am her biggest advocate because of all the health issues I have over the last few months. There are times I really want to just give up. Especially when they say we don't know whats wrong with you or when it's in your head. I will find out whats wrong with me just like this little girl will have a chance.

Anyway back to the question what can I do for this?

Okay. She does NOT need to be on both Panacur and metronidazole. I would take her off the metronidazole immediately. Panacur does the same thing, and is milder on the system.

She needs to be on Albon for intestinal irritation. Do you still have some?

Also, give her the anti-diarrhea med if you still have that, and begin using a dab of diaper cream on her anus for relief. When the diarrhea stops, her anus will recede.

In the meantime, is she getting plenty of wet food and pedialyte?

Also, is the diarrhea yellow or brown?

And, please just keep her yourself for now. I believe she will recover. It's just that diarrhea and meds are tough on a small kitten's system and take time to recover.

Okay. Let me know how she is later, and what color the diarrhea is, and if she is eating well enough.

The pro-pectalin is anti-diarrheal. Also, do you have probiotics in the house? Sprinkle some from a capsule into her wet food. That will help the good flora balance in her gut.

I dont have any probiotics unfortunately. She has ate and drank water the next time she goes to the box I will follow her if she lets me. She is currently napping in the sun and seems to enjoy it. I forgot the diaper rash medicine but I did find some old packets of lubricating jelly I got from the hospital. I used that on her bottom I hope that is ok.

Here is some pictures of her laying in the sun.

When should I start the Albon?

I got looking for the Albon and can't find it. I have one more place it could be. If it's not there I don't know where it is.

I don't know she's gone without me seeing her go until she gets out.

Well, is there diarrhea in the litter box? It looks different than formed poop, even if covered.

I don't know if this could be the cause of her diarrhea, but my kitty got horrible diarrhea while on an antibiotic and yours was on two different medications which could have caused the bowel irritation.

Okay, just read through this thread. Here is my experience/opinions.

First of all, do you actually know whether she has a flat chest or an inverted center chest?

Big diff, a vest will repair a flat chest no prob, but an inverted center is different.

If you pick her up by her scruff with your left hand, turn her over to lay in the palm of your hand so her tummy is exposed.

With your right hand, thumb on one side of her rib cage and first 2 fingers on the other side, gently squeeze together, watch the center closely to see whether it comes outward, or if it caves in more.

This won't hurt her at all, and will tell just what you are dealing with.

If it is infact inverted, this has a much different and varying outcome to it.

Most need it surgically repaired, which is clearly not an option for her.

Please do this ASAP and tell me what you see happen.

This is caused by inbred/incest of cats, along with extra toes and curled/crooked/shorter/bumpy tails.

So right off the top you know, she is at a disadvantage due to her genes.

BUT....does not mean she can't get through it all either.

Never stop trying unless there is no chance of recovering and she is suffering.

I have pulled an incredible number of kittens through, having a rescue group, I've seen it all. At least close to.

Sometimes there's the question of whether or not the kitten will grow up and live a normal life, or if possibly will have issues throughout.

Occasionally, it is the most humane and loving thing to do for them, let them go.

But she isn't beyond help, not at this point at least.

Is there no chance of getting ponazuril for her diarrhea?

Drives me crazy, this amazing once a day for a few days medicine that is broad spectrum and can wipe diarrhea out fast and for good, and not nearly enough vets will give it to you.

A vet who treats large animals like horses will usually have it.

You don't need x-rays that will cost a fortune, you don't need to check for her ingesting something she shouldn't have either.

At best she would benefit from one semi-side view x ray. But if you can do what I asked you to, it might not even be necessary.

She must be on limited food, every single day. No changing up at all.

The easiest for her is goats milk, kmr, baby food.

Baby food diluted with kmr would be my choice.

If she won't take it on her own, then syringe her.

I see her anemia from the pic. Hopefully that issue is fixed so her blood can work on getting healthy.

No fleas! Fleas will keep her down, keep her weakened and unable to recover.

Yes, she is older, a week ago that pic looks like at least 6 weeks old, eye color change starts around 5 weeks, but no blue and she is over 6 weeks.

I found the Albon and gave her a .2 cc dose before I read the thread.

She is completely free free now. They gave her a dose of revolution at the vet. And all the others are treated with it as well. I tried to turn her over and do what you asked and she started acting like she was having trouble getting a breath and her heart started beating like crazy. I got feeling around there and her ribs feel separated. A line all the way across them with a deep hole in the middle. She is not flat chested at all it is a pretty bad indention. In fact the day I got her I had never seen something like that so I I thought she had been starved so bad that her stomach had caved in.
