I have had a rough night with her. Since about 2 she has been throwing up undigested food and as soon as she is done throwing up she is in the liter box pooping. It's like water. From the way she acts her belly hurts. I try to comfort her but she wont let me. I need to call Kathy and see if she will let me take her to the vet.

It must be the lactose free milk that is not agreeing with her. I would stop that immediately.

Aside from goat's milk, which you said you can't get again until later this week, keep her on whatever helped her gain 4 ounces.

The vet can give her something to help with vomiting and diarrhea, but it sounds like it may be something in her diet.

See if she will take some pedialyte.

That is the thing I haven't given her any milk all I have gave her is the baby food and a few treats. It's the baby food she is throwing up.

Uh oh. That is worrisome. She definitely needs to see the vet. Sounds like it may be a parasite. Try to get pedialyte into her in the meantime.

I called the vet and they want me to bring her to drop off and they will work her in. I am going to have to make some pedilyte and force her to take it. Thankfully she is sleeping now. I haven't seen her throw up in a few hours but you can tell she is weak.

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
sending positive vibes that it's treatable. is it possible that her caved in front is making her stomach have less room for food? maybe you can give her sub fluids? So sorry that she has been ill all night. hoping the vets can help her.

Another thought: maybe it's too early for her to eat solids? Maybe she is only used to milk/liquids at this point?  maybe try canned pumpkin watered down to stop the diarrhea?

The vet will give her fluids, hopefully as soon as she arrives, even if she has to wait to be seen.

I'm wondering if your home is infected with spores of something that the kitten contracted. Just something to think about since Lil Bit was so sick for so long.

Do keep us posted.

That is something to think about. But whenever there is a sickness I bleach everything, walls, carpets in clorox 2. I then spray with disinfectant. Plus wouldn't the other kittens have it if it was spores. Because they all groom each other and lay together.

Do you actually use Clorox 2? If so, it's not a disinfectant. It uses peroxide instead of bleach, and although peroxide does kill some germs, it's not the right concentration for disinfecting. It just removes stains. Although if you spray it with disinfectant that should do something.

It's possible that only the immune-compromised or weak ones might pick up something, if that's in fact what it is. It was just a thought.

Are you able to get her to the vet today? I know you don't drive. Poor baby. She was doing so well. It could also just be a virus that will pass, but I'm sure she's dehydrated.

They kept her so they can give her fluids and waiting for an ok from the rescue for xrays to make sure she didn't swallow anything. They also want to see how bad her defect is. To see if it's causing pressure on the belly stopping her from being able to eat enough. She did seem to perk up a little when I dropped her off and was trying to play.

I'm hoping it was just a 24-hour virus, but they should test for parasites. Giardia can cause diarrhea and vomiting. Do you know if they plan to check? Is that what Lil Bit had?

I still haven't heard from Kathy to find out what tests she will approve. I don't think they know what was wrong with Lil Bit. All testing came up negative. She did get the antibiotics and steroids. She was on a special diet but eats what the others eat now and no problems. Like I said she is a different cat. She still is a little aloof. But when she wants attention she comes to you. She is now playing Momma to Holly. Her and Sassy has a don't mess with me I wont mess with you type thing going on. I think it's because they are so much a like. The only one Sassy likes in the house is my daughter Leah and she puts up with me because I feed her.

I am sending you a pm too.

@sarthur2  I decided to just put it on here instead of pm. It may or may not help someone.

I am asking because of the spores and it may just be grasping at straws.

In May was when Lil bit and the kittens all got the diaherra. I promise it was horrible. I was doing everything to keep it clean. But with five and a bm's every hour or so plus having them go out of the box. It took everything in me to get  them better and carpet cleaning daily. I am always good with hand washing but you know when you are like did I wash my hands? Let me do it again just in case. A week later the kittens were better but as you know that Lil Bit just kept getting worse. She would have a week or two of being ok then bam she would start again. All tests on her showed negative on all parasites. She has been tested three different times.

A week after Lil Bit got really bad I started with horrible stomach cramps and diaherra too. I went to the ER and after tests they said nothing was wrong. After a few months the my top of my stomach was hurting I had surgery for my gallbladder and still have horrible pain.  I am so bad that it can last for hours, comes and goes like labor pains. I also go back and forth with the loose and firm like her.

I know this is gross and I am sorry. But I can't keep from thinking that my symptoms go with her. Is there anything Cats and humans can get? Could that be the reason Hope is sick? I mean I am the only one that is dealing with both.

Maybe I am just hoping it's something like that so I can get better too. If it something that can be transferred between us no wonder Lil Bit was such a terror. If her belly hurt this bad.

People and cats can both get Giardia. It is one of the most prevalent parasites around.

Here is a WebMD article about it:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/giardia-infection/basics/symptoms/con-20024686

Flagyl is a medication that treats it in both humans and cats. An antibiotic can help too if the gastro-intestinal tract is irritated.

Panacur works in cats too. I just treated one of mine with it, but it is used off-label by vets, as it is an equine medicine.

My concern is what spores may be in your home as well, of whatever it is. I feel like something is in your home, since the new kitten came in fairly healthy and initially gained 4 ounces.

Here is an article about Giardia in cats:

http://www.vetmedclinic.com/?p=177

Has the vet specifically tested for Giardia?

I hope this helps.

Giardia doesn't always show up in fecal tests. It's usually recommended to just treat for it in cases of unexplained diarrhea, because it's so common yet hard to definitively diagnose. Won't hurt to run a round of Flagyl just in case.

I found a little black jiggy baby outside my house in the winter laying in my garbage so I took it in and kept it. Turned out to be a female jiggybaby. She has 6 toes on both of her front paws. Years went by and she got pregnant by one of my boy cats. Her babies all 4 of them have 5 toes on both back paws. She had 5 kittens 1 died. The 2 female littens are deformed. They walk on their arms. They can't stand up straight. I am getting her fixed because I don't want anymore deformed kittens I feel so sorry for them.
