I had frozen my sourdough starter when it got too hot and sticky to bake bread this summer. It was an experiment and I was a little worried that I killed it by freezing it. Not to worry! Got it out of the freezer on Friday night and tossed it into the microwave to hang out for a while to thaw (around here, things go into the microwave to thaw.....or else the cats will get it). Got up this morning and it's bubbling. Gave it a good feeding and will keep it on the counter this morning, then put it in the fridge. It's fine. I'm thinking cinnamon raisin sourdough English muffins next weekend, although Rick's mom has already asked me when I'm making BBQ chicken sourdough pizza. She loves sourdough pizza, but she really loves BBQ chicken on her pizza! With smoky provolone.

This is right after I fed it.You can already see the bubbles starting to form again. I did not remove any starter; probably should have, but I didn't have much to start with. So now we know. Sourdough starter can be frozen and thawed successfully! King Arthur suggested drying the starter, then freezing little dollops. I figured....ehhh, just put it in a small Rubbermaid container, toss it in the freezer, and see what happens.

It's soup and bread kind of weather here today.  I could really go for some nice, crusty sourdough bread and broccoli cheddar soup!

The pizza sounds veeeery good too though!

Oh Pam I wish I had your knowledge of baking. I can cook, I'm told very well. But I screw up baking bread and even a box mix of cake. Cookies, bread, brownies, pie etc. forget it. Maybe it's because I don't like sweets but I live for a good bread.
