I want to read more to understand my little monster's personalities and behavior and grooming/other care. I bought a Reader's Digest book, which had a lot of cool biology and history but was missing much in terms of behavior and care.

Depends on what you are looking for-

Think Like a Cat by Pam Johnson- Bennett is good- as is Twisted Whiskers and Psycho Kitty by the same author-

The books I have bought are: Cat Owner's Survival Manual by Claire Horton-Bussey and David Godfrey, and Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook by Delbert G. Carlson D.V.M. & James M. Giffin M.D. I'm still going through the second book, and it's been pretty interesting. Explains about conditions and emergency situations. The first book explains about behaviors, care, grooming, etc.

I'm still looking for other good books as well. Hope these books have an interest to you.

One "general" book I've found quite useful is the "ASPCA Complete Guide to Cats", ISBN 0-8118-1929-9.

The Cat Who Cried for Help : Attitudes, Emotions, and the Psychology of Cats by Nicholas Dodman is an interesting look at troubled cats and how he helped them. Although my cat has never had any of the problems described in this book, I am always fascinated by cat behaviors and found it to be a good read.

One thing you could do is go to www.amazon.com and do a search. A lot of the books they sell have been reviewed by people like yourself. The reviews should give you a good idea as far whether or not the book is worth buying. You can also look inside some of the books, and search the individual books for specific subjects.

One good authoritive book on cat care is The Cornell Book of Cats. It was written by the faculty, staff, and associates of the Cornell Feline Health Center, it's mainly a medical reference, but does include a section on behavior.
