The two cats in question are both kittens, my older one, Suki has been with me since early September. I thought she'd be my only cat for a while. Yesterday however, I found out that someone had kept a kitten from one of their litters to give me. I'm weak and can't say no to a tiny kitten so I brought her home.

Suki is seventeen weeks, and I think the new kitten is about seven weeks. I let them meet right off in neutral territory, someplace still a little unfamiliar to the both of them. (Suki had gone in twice but never really explored, the new kitten was brought in and she explored for a couple hours before Suki was introduced.) I left a harness and leash on Suki just in case, she's always been a little shy but because of their size difference I thought it'd be safer that way.

New kitten puffed her fur up and went straight over to Suki and the two growled at each other for a while before separating. It's been like that on and off now, the two of them taking turns approaching, then growling or hissing at each other before going off to hide or do their own thing. There hasn't been any fighting, so that's good, but I don't think I can trust them alone together yet.

I gave the new kitten her own food and water dish away from Suki's, and I put in a makeshift litter box to serve until I get a proper second one.

Last night I kept Suki in the bedroom with me since that's where she has been sleeping and gave the new kitten the run of the house. When I was called in to work I switched the two, but made sure the seven week old always had access to water and a litter box.

Anyway, these two should eventually get along fine, right? Is there anything I could do to help their transition, have I ruined things yet? Any advice you guys can give me?
