My Oreo is a very petite cat. She is maybe 5 to 6 lbs. She got out on August 5 and was missing until August 11. About a week or two after she got home I noticed she was pregnant. Not sure exactly when she is due but estimate from yesterday through about Wed. Yesterday morning I found about a tablespoon of clear fluid mixed with a little blood. All day she was flopping around and cleaning herself frantically. This morning I went in the room I have her in to check on her. There are still no kittens. My other cat won't leave her side and howls when I take her away. My pregnant cat is normally overly loving but now doesn't seem to want to cuddle. Should I be worried? We don't have the money to take her to the vet until the 14th. As that is my first instinct.

The count depends on what you noticed the pregnancy on.  The teats gets red quite exactly on 3 weeks, so it hints she got mated and preggo alomst immediately she got out... So they raw count gives her into the 60-ties now...

How long have you felt the kittens move?  Has she dropped?  Ie changed from carrying a a male basketball to a junior-player basketball?

If the other cat is her best friend, and she doesnt mind the company, you can let them be together.

As now, it sounds quite normal, be observant but you dont need to visit the vet.  Spare the money till you really need the visit.

(Of course, if you are on speaking terms with your vet, you CAN phone and talk through - some vets encourage this from their customers, others not)

She would be 64 days pregnant if she mated on August 5th. It may be later. So she may have her babies in the next few days. The average pregnancy is 65-68 days. The discharge you mentioned can occur 1-3 days before delivery.

She sounds very close, and may be having pre-labor or early labor pains. Try to be patient, and let your other cat hang out with her if they are friends.

Thank you both she loves the other cat and seems stressed if they aren't together so I have them both in a back bedroom with their boxes food and water. I also have a box set up for her to nest in. And a padand blanket on the bed as she insists on being on the bed. She is still eating and drinking normally. Thank you for your responses I feel much better

I felt the kittens move around the first of September. Around Monday she started looking a lot thinner from the top but her belly seems much closer to the floor, and when she lays on her side she wants her belly rubbed.

It sounds like the kittens have dropped down into position near the birth canal. This means she is getting closer to labor and delivery.

There is a reddish brownish mucous like substance coming from her back end and she is getting much less active. Her nipples are pink when I dig through her fluffy belly fur but don't leak or feel full like my other cats were when I took her and here 4 day old kittens in a bit over a year and a half ago. Will the milk come in closer to giving birth or should I run to the store and get some formula.

Some cats get milk just before delivery, and some just after. You should definitely have kitten formula on hand regardless. Mom needs a dish a day for the extra calcium, and you may need to supplement. You'll need a 1 or 2 mL syringe on hand too.

OK I have some of those 1 and 2 ml droppers (1 angled and one straight used for feeding a baby bird we found last spring). They are boiling now to sterilize them. I have a small syringe for baby meds but should I get a new one? Does Walmart sell a good enough replacement formula? I don't remember the brand they carry. The closest pet store is over an hour away. How many ounces should I give mom a day? And should I start now or after she delivers?

Walmart sells PetAg kitten formula. Buy a can of the powdered, not the pre-mixed. The small syringe for baby meds and droppers that you mentioned should be fine.

You can start mom on formula now- about 1/4 cup per day.

Thank you for prepariing! [emoji]128077[/emoji]

If you wouldnt find the PegAg KMR in powder (although they shold have it), and the alternative seems inferior, you can also use goats milk.   Its a good supplement both for momma and the kittens if need be.   Also, I think tis cheaper than KMR.   :)

Oh okay thank you. Just wish I had my livestock rescue back up and running. I always had fresh goat milk. I rescue horses goats and ducks mostly. We also took in rabbits and feral cats (TNR) to live in the barn. I used to use goat milk for baby bunnies but didn't think about it for the kittens.

Still no kittens. I check on her every 2 to 3 hours and sit with her if she acts like she wants me to. She is not a big fan of KMR or goat milk but drinks a little especially if her friend starts to drink some.

A full tablespoon isnt just some discharge, it was probably the waters from one of the kittens... So yes, its touchy.  Still, it may end well anyway, without vet intervention.

Do you have access to a vet?  As you had this rescue, you must have cooperated with vets? Can you phone to one of yours cooperants?

We had the rescue a couple years ago and have moved out of state. I will call the vets and see if anyone can help. I haven't been in this area very long and don't know the vets here but will see what I can find. She was scheduled to be spayed back in may but my husband got downsized. He just started a new job and gets a small check this week so I'm hoping one will treat her and let us pay Friday.

Once she's delivered, we'd be happy to help you find a low cost spay clinic in your area.

Is she eating? Using the litter box normally?

How is she acting? It does not sound like an emergency. Does she appear to be laboring?

I called the vet my neighbor recommended. He was very nice and said it's not an emergency. She would be sick by now if there was an issue. He said I could wait a few more days to bring her in. He is pretty sure it was just pre labor. She was sitting in my lap kneading my chest trying to nurse on my neck ad usual until just a minute ago and she is sitting at the other end of the couch cleaning herself. She scarfed down about half a can of food this morning. She seems just fine. No labored breathing or anything.

Still no kittens but now doesn't show any signs of being pregnant. Could it have been a false pregnancy? She is still active, eating, and drinking well.
