So Lil back story: a week ago someone tried to do a good deed and rescued kittens from outside... without the mother(they wanted to keep the mom around as she kept mice away...) this is the third batch that this rescue group got this way and needed a lil help with the care especially since they already had batches of kittens others "saved.I have mothered litters of kittens before so volunteered to take 2.

they are over 3 weeks now and have been giving me a ride for my money in every aspect. They are healthy (though under weight for their age), active, curious and voracious eaters, devouring food as if it's their last meal.they have been biting and chewing the nipples of their bottles, sometime creating holes, for a couple days now. Everytime I have ever had this, I would introduce soft food and the kittens would go ham. Not these two though... oh no..
They want the soft food and happily eat it off my finger (ouch by the way) if I get a little in their mouth, but no matter what I do they don't understand unless it's in the bottle. I've tried a spoon, syringe, leading their heads to the dish with food on my finger, formula in a dish...gruel... I've never had such difficult times with introducing wet food to kittens!

Because they are underweight the vet wants me feeding them recovery canned food as well as they are biting the nipples hard enough to break them, but they just aren't getting it... any ideas on what else I could do to get these little fellas to start to eat some of the canned food without biting my fingers off?

Mix the wet food with formula so it's mushy, then try feeding it to them in the bottle. They sound hungry, so maybe this will work.

Ive done this. The eating it is fine. They would eat me if they got the chance... its just it HAS to be on my finger or in a bottle otherwise they dont seem to get it... its definately a puzzle for me

It just sounds like they are not quite ready to wean. Some kittens just take a week or two longer. They will get it eventually. Keep trying!
