My cat gave birth yesterday to her second litter and only had three kittens, I'm sure she has at least one more in her stomach. After giving birth to the third kitten I waited two hours even though the three kittens were born an hour and thirty minutes apart I was worried and began rubbing her stomach and I felt a baby in there it was a hard ball like a head and it disappeared while I was touching it. She started giving birth at 9:30pm and her last kitten was born at 12:14am it's now 6:30pm the next day and still no more babies. She's eating and drinking fine and even used the bathroom. She's been a good mommy to her babies who all seem healthy. I'm just worried there could be another baby in there and if there is why isn't it coming out? And before anyone says anything about her being pregnant I got her two weeks ago when she was already pregnant we got her from a neighbor who didn't want her anymore, we couldn't just let them throw her out. Me and my family are also planning on keeping all the kittens so we won't have to worry about them ending up in the streets like momma almost did. I'm planning on getting her spayed as soon as I can. And I also can't take her to the vet because I'm living in Florida where hurricane Matthew is currently, everythings closed and no one is aloud out in the streets just yet.

I hope someone will come along & help you with this one. I have no clue if she still has a kitten inside. But it's going to be hard to take her to the vet because she cannot leave her kittens. And you cannot take newborn kittens with her. Just hang in there - nature will probably take whatever course it is planning. Kudos to you for rescuing & keeping this little family.

If she doesn't seem to be in distress she is probably fine. Pauses in birth are normal. In addition, you may have been feeling her uterus, which needs to shrink back to its normal size post-pregnancy.

How is it going? As TalkingPeanut said, its probably the enlarged uterus you feel.  Otherwise, as long as she is fine and happy, you can wait and see - pauses are common...  But of course, its touchy, so you must observe closely.

Nothing has happened so far but she seems okay at times she appears to be breathing a little fast but it's mostly when all kittens are nursing at the same time. I'm hoping my Vet who I take my other cats to will be open tomorrow if they are I'll take her in if she seems off.

Yeha, have the kittens nursing gives sensations and feelings...  She may also have natural aftercontractions.

Why, kittens nursing does stimulate these aftercontractions.   So its a common trick when we suspect perhaps an afterbirth is still inside, to let the kittens nurse, and this way provoke the delivery of the afterbirth...

So do as you are planning.  Phone the vet perhaps before you go with her there - the vet will know what follow up questions to give.  And you are his paying customer, so he will answer and give some advices on telephone.

How is mom doing now?

She may be having after pains. They are very common the first couple of days after a cat gives birth. Give her a dish of kitten formula to drink. The extra calcium will help.

It sounds like she is doing okay. But if you do take her to the vet, you also need to take the kittens along too, as they need to stay with mom. They will need a heat source in the carrier as well.

She started bleeding yesterday so I took her to the vet where they did x rays and luckily she's okay! No baby's it's such a relief I can finally go to sleep without worrying something will happen while I'm out. Sadly there's a runt in the litter. The baby girl, she's much smaller than the others and doesn't seem like she'll make it. I started bottle feeding her which she didn't like. The vet gave me a syringe which is much easier to feed her with. Praying that she makes it. The clinic was amazing though I'm tight with money so they did the X-ray's for free!

Good you had her checked out. You must feed the runt a couple of mLs of formula every 2 hours to help it survive. Do you know its weight? Does it also nurse from mom?

I don't know her weight but she's much lighter then her brothers. I've been feeding her every two hours and making sure she stays warm. Mamas been cuddling her but I don't think she'll make it through the day. It's upsetting but the vet said sometimes the runts just don't make it.

Keep feeding. You can do it every hour if needed. It's not necessary for runts to die.

Trust me I know I've had runts of kitten and puppy litters who have lived which is why I'm not giving up on this little one

How is the baby doing?
She sadly passed away an hour ago. I put her down with her mommy during her last moments and her mom grasped onto the blanket the baby was wrapped around and refused to let anyone touch her. It broke my heart seeing that. Thankfully she's still caring for her other two.

It's always sad to lose one. It's good you let the mom have her at the end for a bit, and that she still has the other two. Thank you for trying to save the runt.
