Good evening,

I know that this might sound ridiculous but my black girl is finishing up on her canned and dry kitten food. She is a year old now. What i would like to know is does the gradual introduction have to be done still even if the kitten and adult food dry are both purina? Her kitten food is Purina Kitten and her adult food is Purina Adult Complete or does the gradual intro for kitten dry to adult dry still have to be done?

The reason why I ask is because she gets picky one time this month I tried a gradual process with her and she was fine with the 3/4 1/4 mixture but when I got to 1/2 and 1/2 she stopped eating and went on a hunger strike what do I do if that happens again

I would recommend primarily wet food for both cats, and Friskies pate or Sheba pate or Fancy Feast pate is good enough (the ones with slices and chunks and pieces usually have wheat gluten in them, and you should avoid that.   You want a diet that is primarily meat with only a little carbohydrates.  The Purina Kitten Chow is highly addictive, so you may have to work some to get her off that.  What worked for my adddicted guy was to sprinkle his food with nutritional yeast, which he loves, and that will make him eat anything.  Search some feline nutrition web sites and read what they have to say.  I also highly recommend a book by Elizabeth M. Hodgkins, D.V.M. called "Your Cat - simple snew secrets to a longer, stronger life."  You can get it on Amazon.  I have the hard cover copy but used copies and soft cover are available, and it's available on Kindle for $9.99.  Every cat owner should have this book in my opinion!  It gives you a lot of knowledge about everything CAT.

No. you can change up varieties within the same brand, at least that's what I was told. It's only when you go from brand to brand is when there is potential for upset.

I will offer this piece of advice, don't feed your cat dry food for the reason you stated, she will not want any other food. I'm dealing with the same thing myself. I'm trying different foods out & my one cat will wait until I give her the dry. I'm trying to get the bag gone & then I won't buy anymore. Dry food is not a good choice anyway, any type of wet is best.
