Cat is Acting Sick?

Hello! I wanna start this off saying that this may be long so bare with me. Also, I have never owned a cat until recently. I rescued one and this so you can understand my confusion. My cat Queen (she's my profile picture) was born somewhere in July, but where she is a rescue, we don't know her birthday for sure (We decided to give her the birthday of July 25th!). Anyways, my mother has a kitty litter of four - two are male, two are female.. My moms kitties are now about six months old now, but none of our cats are neutered/spayed. I was told cats don't go into heat until six months of age, and when I brought Queen over, the kitties were almost six months. They were humping each other but my mom said it was dominance. I can't take her to the vet because my mothers cat got sick and I've already paid to take him and I don't have enough cash to take her.  I'll start from when I noticed Queen's odd behavior.

I know it may have seemed too much to add that the boy cats humped each other but Queen went into heat around September 10th when I left the building. When I woke the next morning she was no longer in heat. In fact, on the 12th, she started to make a nest in our corner cabinet. My mom closed the door so Queen made a nest out of my old clothes in the off bedroom that no one really enters (plus it's SUPER warm in there). About three days after this she went into heat again for less than two days and then stayed on top of the freezer. She started acting weird and meowing at everyone for affection but refused to get down. She wasn't stuck because she would get down when she really wanted my attention! She never stopped meowing at this time either. I mean that literally. Any time she even saw me she would meow and to me it was as if she was super excited to see me. After a few days she went back to my box of clothes.

After this we noticed her nipples would change from a dark pink to a regular pink. Not only that but the fur on her stomach, mostly near her nipples, have began to deplete. They also were very prominent at this time and seemed bigger than the other cats. It was the first think I noticed on her. Then she started laying around in the box and not moving a lot. I got worried that she wasn't eating enough so I put food on the window sill for her to get. She still gets down to get the food and water, but I don't see her do it very often. Her stomach is very hard now as well, but sometimes it feels less hard than before.

A few days ago we noticed two piles of vomit too. I don't know if it was her or not, but she is the largest cat in this building and the puke was fairly large. She does not like me touching her tum so I won't be doing that again.  Today, she has difficulties jumping on things. She jumped on the counter but didn't make it all the way and scratched for dear life, then tried to get in her box but she kept bending her knees instead of jumping. I had to put her in a small box like an elevator to help her up to her box. She still gets on high places for me to pet her but again she has some difficulties. Her voice has become rasp when she does meow and she's beginning to move around for attention.

I was told she could be pregnant, but she doesn't take on a pear shape ( I was told pregnant cats do). I mean, she did at one point but now she looks more like a figure 8 with a butt. I did notice her belly kind of sags at the bottom.

sorry for being so blunt and sounding harsh, but she really needs to be seen by a Vet.

We are not Vets here. We cannot diagnose over the internet...

Sounds as if she needs a professional Vet Visit...

She could have had a miscarriage... and possibly even carrying the dead kitten inside her... that is a serious situation.. She needs to be seen..

sorry, and thank you for caring for her...

She sounds like she could be pregnant.

All of the cats need to spayed and neutered very, very soon. Otherwise, you are going to be drowning in kittens, and inbred ones at that. Do you need help finding a low cost spay and neuter clinic?

Females can go into heat at 4 months. 6 months is more than old enough.

Yeah I understand that people aren't vets on here, but there are people who have had experience with my situation, which is why I want to ask them. I'm currently making a plan to get her to the vet but it may take a while and I'm looking for any possible help. I'm sorry I can't take her to the vet I already feel bad enough that I can't.

What makes you think she may have miscarried? Like I said, I don't know much about cats but if she is or was pregnant, she would be 3 1/2 weeks pregnant, so maybe it's morning sickness? I only say that because she doesn't act sad, just sick. She was playing with me just before I started to type this. It was a sleepy kind of play and she stopped for a second.

You should also apply for care credit and ask vets if they will work with you on a payment plan. You really can't wait around on the spaying and neutering here, nor on getting your girl seen.

Lastly, can you afford the care for a litter of kittens and the potential emergency vet costs if something goes wrong? If not, you may want to spay her now and end the pregnancy.

There is one about an hour away from me. Right now I don't have any extra cash. My mom's kittens were playing and one of her male cats (first male) dislocated his claw by getting it stuck in the carpet. The other male (second male) knocked a heavy door over in the first males direction, causing him to try to run, but couldn't. so he got hit with the door and he pulled his claw out. I rushed him to the vet and he's okay, but the vet bill is very high. Soon, I plan to get both males fixed to prevent any more cats. So before anyone else tells me to take her to the vet, please understand I'm really trying to.

We suspected that and have asked around. You'd be the fourth person to tell me that. I'm sorry I have to ask around and not able to take her to the vet. I love her and I'm going to take her to the vet very soon though! I've set the off room up for her with a litter box, food and water, and two boxes to stay in. If she isn't pregnant, she's at least sick and I want her to feel comfy until I can do something. Thank you for your response.

Yes I can care for her and the kittens. Like I said in my other reply, an emergency happened and the bill is high. I didn't know that the credit existed so that will help and I will see if I can get that

Welcome to TCS! :wavey: I'm sorry it is under these circumstances.

We do get that things happen and at times money can be tight. It sounds like you already know that she needs to see a vet. Let's see if we can give you some ideas to get you there. :)

There's a good article here on what you should do if you can't afford the vet, along with some low-cost options -

http://www.thecatsite.com/a/no-money-for-vet-care-how-to-find-help-and-save-your-cats-life

Our members are scattered all over and some have excellent contacts to different rescues and low-cost services. If you can give a rough idea of where you are located (no need to give an exact location out on the open board to protect your privacy), someone may be able to point you in the right direction.

Please do let us know where you are located and we can try to help.

For now, I would separate the males from the rest of the females. It's too risky.

Thank you all for your help. I managed to get her to the vet with the assistance of a few friends and the kindness of my vet, I managed to get Queen to the vet. It looks like she's going to be having three little kittens!

Does your vet think she is healthy? So great that you were able to get her in.

My vet said she was healthy other than the fact that she has worms. The kitties are fine and nothing seems wrong so far.

Glad she is well.

Do you have the male cats separated from the females now?

Yes, but I gave a situation now. Queen is currently in heat! It started today, around 1:00 pm. She was cooing and doing the foot paddles for less than two minutes and keeps doing it on and off. She's being very vocal and rubbing against things, but her sides are still popped out. I gently felt of her stomach, her boobs are still sagging and her stomach feels hard in the center but not much on the sides. One of the boys were near her and showed no interest in her, even though they were showing interest in their sister who is now in heat. When one cat got too close to her, she tucked her tail and twisted her position away from the boy cat and licked his ear. Then, she jumped to me, so I petted her and she started paddling again. Is this a bad thing?

She is probably getting close to delivery and confused. Do you have nests set up for her?

And you have your males and females separated all of the time?

Well I have a room for the two boys that I put them in when no one is around. However, I let them out and supervise them. They're bonded, so they don't leave each other's side that often, but when I have the time to watch them, I let them associate with he other cats because I feel it's cruel to leave them in one room 24/7. That's isn't a bad thing right?

And yes I have Queen her own room with three boxes in different corners (but for some reason she's nesting on my old tote bag). She also keeps scratching her box before she lays down. Not kneeding but literal scratching.

I noticed she is only doing the heat dance for me. My mom pet her and it took a while before she began to act like she was in heat, but she made several attempts to run away. She ran to me and MEOWED until I pet her.

Also, I wasn't just informed that she had been vomiting around the beginning of September I felt that's means anything
