I am utterly shocked at how, 2 months ago, I was told that both my kitties may need to be euthanized ---for pancreatitis and how it played out in different forms.
I am here with two happy kitties and I wanted to share my story.
All I can say is that I am truly blessed that my family helped me with vet costs. That is first and foremost the key to this happy ending. But also know your pets. I've started keeping a health journal and chronicaling my kitties habits, what I see as odd and mark down medication and food choices. I chalked up far too much as something else, and I missed the signs that my kitties were hurting. If I'd known the signs, I may have prevented the situation that unfolded and thus, extensive vet costs.
Also, listen to your gut. I had put in the call to have Bandit euthanized at home at the end of August. And I am thankful he did everything he could to show me he wasn't ready to go---which was what my gut told me. I canceled and he has slowly improved to now being active, even attacking his sister (ok, she's less thrilled about that). From Bandit being lethargic and sleeping/hiding under my bed to him being cuddly, snuggly and eating and being more alert---his eye is still wonky with Horner's syndrome but it hasn't slowed him down. He's a bit weak still on his hind limbs due to muscle atrophy but he's slowly putting it back on as he walks more.
Skye is also doing well, though I'm keeping an eye on her as her bowels have slowed down again. It's possible she finds it painful to posture to poop due to arthritis so I've got her on prednisone for 5 days to see if that helps. So far I have seem moderate improvement but nothing like before. But, everything else is good
I can't thank you all enough for your help and I am one of the lucky ones who can write this and all I can say is I feel blessed. My birthday is in a few days and this was the best gift I could have gotten
