Hello all! I am new to this forum but I have a question regarding my cats eye. Wondering if there is an over the counter something I can give her for this.
It's kinda mucous like drainage, she keeps it slightly shut most of the day. Any way I can get by without going to the vet?

There are eye drops you can possibly get at a feed store/petco but also keep applying warm compress to help with swelling.

One possibility is that your cat has an ulcer on its eye. They are very painful and can cause the squinting. I would not suggest treating the eye yourself until an ulcer is ruled out. You could cause more harm and a great deal of pain. Ulcers can be a serious problem with some cats losing the eye. Or it could just be an eye infection, herpes or some enviromental irritation. It is best to let the vet decide.

I tried MANY home remedies when my elder cat got an eye infection, many helped but none cured. I finally got an antibiotic eye ointment from a pet internet site, I believe it was PetMeds but I just kept looking until I found one. THAT worked. Make sure you gently pull the eyelid away from the eye and deposit the ointment in a line along the 'pocket' that is formed. My cat was very used to me messing with his eye by then so ti wasn't a problem. You could call your vet and see if he will give you one over the counter, it is more expensive that way but cheaper than a visit. I didn't want to stress my almost 16 year old who has a heart condition any more then I had too. Good luck!
