I saw an interview with people in Melbourne who didn't leave.  It was an older couple, their daughter who looked middle aged and a boy that looked about 10.  This older woman was one of the types that thought she knew what she was doing.  She said you just have to be prepared we have food, water and ice.  Then she said, 'as long as we don't lose power'  They were asked if they have a generator and they didn't.  I think the chances of them not losing power is slim to none.

I'm sorry but I see that as just utterly idiotic and verging on criminal.  How a parent could subject their child to such a thing is beyond me.  I'm in Orlando, and from what I'm hearing Melbourne is subject to the worst impact of the storm!

Such utter stupidity.

They're probably voting for Trump, too.

Kelly, your zinnias are so beautiful!  When I was a kid my grandmother grew them in a huge garden and her house was always overflowing with incredible vases full of them.

Angel looks so handsome in that photo.  There's a wonderful stray orange male tabby on the grounds of one of the apartment I manage and I call him Angel.  He such a sweet cat.  He always makes me think of you and your boy Angel.

Awww, that's so sweet!! Thank you!  Yes, I saw you post about that. I'm glad you're looking out for him.
(It's hard to believe he's been gone 8 months now!)

Yes, I decided to cut most of the flowers I had down there, before the storm ruins them. I left some for the butterflies though. There were some monarchs flying around out there from one, to another.

There was some talk earlier that it would come ashore at Wilmington, which is where Hurricane Fran came ashore, got on the Cape Fear River, and right up though my neck of the woods near Raleigh. Looks like we will be spared this time, but I know people in Florida who are NOT evacuating even though there is mandatory evacuation. I just don't understand that one, better to be safe than wish you had left.

I hope all you TCSers who live in the sunshine state are safe!
Misty, Are you in Wilmington too?

Oh yea.   I lived in MN for 6 & 1/2 years, so I missed some of them. I had to look it up & see what year that one was, it said 1996. I wasn't here then. I came back in 1997. I sure didn't miss them though!

Well, so far the calming spray I bought is working :bigthumb:
I sprayed some on the carpet, under the coffee table, because Sammy likes to lay there.
He's been laying around sleeping , so, so far, so good!
It hasn't started raining yet here in Wilmington. Weather chnl said 50℅ by 4:00, but is quarter till & nothing yet. I'm sure once it starts, it will say that way. We'll see! I have a friend working in FL. Right now, & he said it's been off & on.
I sprayed that bed too, but so far, he hasn't laid in any beds. I have one in my room too.
All 3 beds I have were washed after Angel.

So glad you took him in. It would be horrible to be outside in that storm. Think about how frightening it would be for him.

Yes, I know! I always pray that any stray animals out there are safe & have food & shelter somewhere.
Thank goodness, I haven't seen any around here lately.

A friend, who lives in the outskirts of Orlando, stated that his fence came down.. so far so good with him and his family..

Have not heard from him in a while, so I do not know if he has power., he did get a generator yesterday.. His entire family; kids and grandkids are all hunkering down with him...  Grandpa and Granny know best...

Yea, my friend is in Jacksonville, at a hotel, since he was there for work that's where he's been staying, & he said they still have power.

My paternal grandparents lived in Rhode Island, right on Narragansett Bay. Their house was 10 feet from the water, seriously. Apparently, when the house was built, it was 10 blocks from the water! But there was a hurricane in 1938 that hit New England hard, killed a lot of people and destroyed a lot of stuff, washed away a lot of land. Of course back then they didn't have the warning systems like they have now, so hopefully a lot of that damage can be prevented/mitigated.

The local news site had a story about a local couple who were honeymooning in Florida, and got evacuated from their beach hotel to an inland hotel. They're panicking and freaking out. . .poor things! He was quoted as saying he wants to get back here where the only weather he has to worry about is blizzards! :lol3: But I've been in hurricanes and I know that if you're in a sturdy building not too close to the water, you'll be fine, just stay inside so you don't get whacked by flying debris. But I suppose it's a real shocker for people who aren't used to it.

I guess some conspiracy whackos are spreading the idea that the weather service is overstating the danger of this hurricane in order to advance their false global warning agenda :/. And some people believed that and didn't evacuate. I hope they stay safe even if they are silly enough to listen to conspiracy nuts. And maybe learn a lesson too.

Angel was such a handsome kitty. I know you really miss him. I'm partial to orange kittens, If I had my way I would have a house full of orange kittens.

A girl I went to high school with found a frog in her bathroom toilet during the storm! Even he headed for drier ground! :lol3: She released him back outside!

So far everyone I know has posted they are ok. No big property damage either.

Aww, me too!![emoji]128522[/emoji]
Angel really was a handsome boy and it was so obvious from his pictures how much he loved his mommy.

Back to the  weather, things were pretty quiet here in downtown Orlando. We lost power for about 5 minutes this morning. Very little debris. I checked with Florida Power and Light and my power is on at home. We check out tomorrow. I'll take DD back to school and the kids and I will go home after. I have to say that they have been really good. I am proud of all of them

Here is the updated storm tracker from Weather Underground

So far it does look good.  There is still a danger of major flooding in Georgia and South Carolina but so far it looks good.  I know some people are going on about all the hype but it could have been much worse.  It's far better to prepare for the worst case than to minimize things then the worst case happens.
