Has anyone else experienced this? I first noticed an inflamed nipple about 3-4 weeks ago and showed the vet during her route visit. He drained it and gave her antibiotic shot but there was no change in it after 2 weeks. He didn't seem to think it was cancer as he didn't feel the lumps you normally would with feline breast cancer, but still, he wants to remove it to test it and rule it out. I'm pretty nervous about it all, especially what I've read about feline breast cancer. And I'm worried about her returning to normal post-op given her age and never having to go through something like surgery before. Has anyone else had this type (or any type) of situation so I can prepare myself? I'm praying it's just a cyst or anything benign...

I honestly don't recall reading any threads about something like this, but I have read more than I care to remember about feline breast cancer.  Just keep clinging to the Vet's words that it doesn't seem like that
.   I'm sure this surgery isn't nearly as invasive as the breast cancer surgery, but did he say they would do the biopsy right then and there and make a determination if they need to remove more than just her nipple?

What did the Vet say about recovery time?  I think at this point you just pretty much have to put your faith in what the Vet is telling you.

So Tessie had her lupectomy today and I picked her up a couple of hours ago. They had to take more out than planned because they found a couple of other nodules. She's all stitched up and in a belly band (due to bleeding) and a cone. We got back tomorrow at 9a to get the incision checked to make sure there's no bleeding. It's heartbreaking. I wish she could talk and I wish I could tell her it's all going to be ok and the worst part is over. I hate seeing the blood on her fur, but I'm glad that infected nipple is gone and I pray it's benign.

She's had pain meds and has a patch that should kick in in a few hours to carry her the next 3 days. She mostly seems like a drunk cat and has some bouts of meowing, but who can blame her. I just want her to be better! It's so awful to watch her like this. Any tips on how to care for a cat post-op? I put blankets all over the floor so she can roll around on them. And I'm sitting on the ground with her which she is really enjoying as she hasn't left my side.

Any recommendations or tips would be helpful!

I'd say just do what you're doing, and follow the Vet's instructions.

for a benign biopsy.  Keep us posted
