Hello all!

My littlest kitty has a swollen bottom lip. She has had a rosy chin under her lip for some time now (months), so I assumed it was acne and have started wiping her chin with a wet cloth after she eats. I recently noticed that her bottom lip on one side is actually very swollen. I don't know how long it's been like this because the swelling is more inside the mouth and not so noticeable unless I open her mouth up.

Is there anything you could think of that would cause this? She loves to play with water bottle lids (she carries them around in her mouth), so it could have just been irritation from a lid, or maybe a scratch from the other kitty. I feel like it likely has more to do with whatever the rosy chin thing is also about.

We just noticed it last night and thought we should wait a day or two and see if the swelling goes down. Any thoughts?

It is likely she had a virus when she was younger that causes the red chin and swelling from time to time.  This is not unusual with several of the respiratory viruses.  When mine has a flare, I give her Lactoferrin and it helps it heal.  We have an ongoing thread about it on here.  It is made from bovine colostrum and it stimulates the immune system.  Works for people too.  Google it.

It is a powder and is not water soluble but oil soluble, so I mix it in a little coconut oil and then mix in baby food and she eats it with gusto.  Within a few days her chin starts to clear up and the red sores around her lip go away.
