Hi,
So a lot of my friends told me that i need to give my two 11 wks old kittens regular flea treatments. As in baths, sprays etc,
I comb them with flea comb every day after grooming but i dont want to treat them with chemicals unnecessarily. they are both indoor cats. What to do?

My cats are indoor cats. Most of the time there are no fleas so I don't treat for fleas. If I see a flea or evidence of (one of my kitties is alergic), I treat them.

If you don't see any evidence of fleas, I don't think you really need to.  I treated my boys monthly for a few months because somehow they kept getting them even though they never go out - I think maybe fleas jumped onto our clothes and came in with us.  Fleas are bad around here right now - there are tons of them in the grass.  Anyway, the last time they had a flea treatment was around 2 months ago and since I haven't seen any evidence of fleas, I haven't given them another one.

A friend of mine doesn't use chemicals.  She just dusts her cat with diatomaceous earth and that keeps the fleas away.  I want to start doing that because I'm sure it's much healthier than chemicals but I don't know where to get it around here.  She got hers in St. Louis the last time she went and that's a 4 hour drive away.

Thank you. I will try that but I really hope it doesnt happen to my cats.

From a bad flea infestation experience...TREAT THEM.    I don't know for sure, but, this may be one of those things a person has to learn the hard way.
BUT, I can assure you, it's a lesson that will only take once.

It takes a couple months to get rid of fleas.  And it will be one of the most mentally miserable couple of months a person will experience.

This because you'll think NOTHING works.

And the reality is...nothing works "immediately" and nothing works "as advertised".  (but, all of it does actually work...eventually)

Flea treatments say 30 minutes to 24 hours.
My experience is. If you wait until you see fleas, the 1st treatment doesn't do much except test your nerves.  A week or so after the 2nd treatment is when it starts working well enough that you can tell.

(it'll be the same with everything you try in the house also).

Just takes time.

If your cats have been being treated every month, like clock-work.  There's very little chance that they will have, or cause, a flea problem.

Ask your vet about using a monthly flea and parasite preventative on the kittens. The vet can prescribe one. Don't use the ones sold in pet stores because they often don't work very well and some brands may even be harmful to your kittens.

Unless your kittens already have fleas which needs to be treated, you don't need to give them flea baths and sprays at all. A monthtly preventative is all you need. Many kittens and cats love to be groomed with a brush or comb so do that regularily to keep their fur mat free and healthy.
