Hello and question. My 7/8 month old boy had accident and had his right femur broken. Got operated and steel stick inserted (practice here in SL) 4 weeks ago.
Kept him confined as much as possible. Unfortunately that happened the same week I planned to neuter him - which was kept on hold due to accident. Now the steel stick has to get removed next week and I am planning to get him neutered at same time. Doctor is ok but not forthcoming with this idea (they are not used to cats). Was reading a lot in this forum and think better to get both things done at same time. Only once then he needs to get aenestisized. Think he's boy and anyhow he will get antibiotics. What do you think?

If he is going under and the vet is willing I don't see why they both can't be done at the same time. If we were talking a female I would say to hold off and even, possibly, look into a vet that is more familiar with cats to prevent any problems. However, males, especially kittens, recover very quickly from a neuter and it is relatively non-invasive procedure.

Thanks Kieka. I thought the same. With boys its seems not such a big thing than girls so I guess it should be ok. Anyhow think I give a call to the surgeon in the big city who did the leg surgery (more cats admitted there) to be sure before my boy is going under. Thanks again a lot.

I'm not sure I'd want him done by them at all if they don't have much cat experience unless the surgeon is well experienced.  And i agree with the idea of doing both at the same time if they're ok with it.  The length of time under anesthesia isn't the risk as much as going under and coming out of it, both are more risky than just being under.  But its still very safe especially if the cat is fully monitored by a person AND a pulse ox meter while they are going under and while they are recovering (coming out of it)

Thanks StephenQ. The surgery had been done by the best cat doctor here in SL in the main city and he recommended my doctor here in the village to remove the pin (classmates - here more dogs are brought in not cats). Have not heared of any pulse ox meter used here in SL so far (they are very backward equipment wise). But will sit the whole time with my boy until he comes out of anastesia and have my doc standby (did neuter/spay already 3 cats with him and so far so good, am 5 min away from him and will for sure keep him on his toes until all is over). Hope this should work out.
