Hubby and I are new to cats. We got Francesca from SPCA. She was tracking litter just terrible, so the SPCA explained how to make her a covered box from large tote, she is 14lbs.
So, the tracking isn't so bad, but the DUST, ai yai yai!Its everywhere! She digs furiously quite often! I have COPD /Emphysema and am on oxygen.
So what I need is a dust-free, clay-free, unscented litter.
The litter the SPCA sent home is clumping. Its cool, except for the dust. I dont know the difference between clumping and non. How about pellets? Budget IS an issue. ..
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thanks in advance!

get a better cat litter. I recommend Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat litter. It's virtually dust-free. I had tested a lot of different litters before I found it - even my cat sitter was so impressed she uses it now herself.

I know budget is an issue, but you get what you pay for, and dust-free is worth it for me. Just be careful and don't add any deodorizer, that would be adding the dust right back in. Your cat and your health will thank you.

@roguethecat
Thank you so much!
Am looking into Okocat wood clumping, Blue Buffalo Naturally Fresh, and Alfalfa rabbit pellets.
Dust is the #1 issue.

I did try wood pellets but they weren't well liked. They smell nice to my nose, but apparently not to a cat nose!

Depends on what Francesca prefers really. What a nice name! Thank you for giving her a home.

I'm rather allergic to the natural litters, especially alfalfa :/. My favorite is crystal litter, it's a bit dusty when you pour it but it settles quickly. You can get a brand called Fresh Results at a very reasonable price on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MR4HCG2/?tag=&tag=thecatsite or at some Walmarts (not all though).

For clumping clay litter I like Tidy Cats with the black lid. I tried Dr Elsey's once and thought it was dustier :dk:.

Thanks so much!
The hubby wants to try the Blue Buffalo Naturally Fresh Clumping Litter, its the walnuts. I think we are gonna give it a shot. Although I do think the Blue pellets (walnuts) look good too.

i recommend dr elsey's precious cat - our cat really likes it, and other litters hurt his paws.  dr elsey's is pretty much dust free, the best litter we ever used.  HK used to love to dig in his box for 10 minutes at a time and we never saw any dust at all except when you pour it in, and you can either pour it from a low height slowly or i scoop it in.

Well, we finally have Francesca transitioned to Blue Naturally Fresh Quick Clumping Cat Litter. (walnuts!)

So I have been doing good keeping it clean by scooping it out, no dust at all! No smell whatsoever!

So am I cleaning it sufficiently? Or do I need to do more?

Thanks is advance!!
