I have eleven rooms. My living room is huge with 16 ft. ceilings. I have an office, laundry room, dining room, kitchen. Then I have three bedrooms and two full baths. Upstairs is my room. It actually is a finished room over the garage that is open and looks down over the living room. I have my genealogy, computer and sewing things there. It is the largest room in the house. I have an enclosed garaged and a screened in porch. It didn't seem too big when we built it, but that was 14 years ago. Now it seems, I have a hard time keeping everything clean.

My favorite place is not one of the rooms, but my screen porch. It overlooks the farm fields and it is always cool out there. There is a big pecan tree by the porch and a breeze is always blowing. I have a wonderful set of plush furniture out there, a small table with 2 chairs. We eat there sometimes.
your home sounds lovely, and quite roomy!
i love how your room is open and looks over your living room -- and with plenty of space, that makes it perfect!

ahhh, a screen porch! it sounds very peaceful and comfortable.

Our house is really small. Five rooms and a basement. Kitchen with dining, living room, master bedroom (which is two bedrooms put together for a larger master) and then a second bedroom, one bath. It's really all we need, although I would dearly love to have one room added on for a library. We have a small deck out back with an in-ground pool.

My favorite room? The kitchen!
very nice!!!
my house has got 5 rooms too. my three cats and myself use all the space though. as i get older, i might consider a smaller house for us and on one floor -- like a ranch style house.

yes, the kitchen!

your house sounds lovely!!!
and an open floor plan too!

i'm sure your cats all love the cat highway! mine enjoy theirs, though it seems that no matter what point we're at, there's a 'dead end' on one end of the cat highway.
I've decided that my winter project will be extending the cat highway around the fourth wall. I'm sure they would love that.

20+ cats galloping around just above head height. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Our house is small: a living room, eat-in kitchen and powder room downstairs, three small bedrooms (one used as a study) and a bathroom upstairs. There's a basement with a laundry room and pantry, plus an unfinished third floor (which would yield two more fair-sized rooms).
your home sounds very nice!

that's great that you have a pantry!
while i don't have a room or area designed as a pantry in my house, i did set up (temporary) shelving in a closet off my kitchen and use that as a pantry. i plan to put in more permanent shelving, possibly in the next year.

It's the worst financial mistake I ever made lol. But, we love it.

Built in 1925, an American Foursquare with Craftsman elements. Old, lots to still fix after living there 6-1/2 years but comfy and big enough for us
was it the first house you bought? my house is the first house i've bought. i think that even though i did quite a bit of research before looking at houses, i still had a 'learning curve'. i had even taken an online homeowner's course. i think there's just so very much to know, to learn, that the first house people buy can many times have 'unforeseen issues' with it.

Yes, I have a "Lazy Boy" rocker/recliner which is MY chair... it is about 8 years old and in need of replacing. I have used it so much! Much more than the sofa/sofa bed which is soooooo old.. from my first apartment, but in great shape. No one would ever guess it was purchased around 1988.....really old..and in such good condition--just dated.

It is a queen size, and great for when I want to lie down and watch TV. I can stretch my 5' 8" body out completely.

The movers almost couldn't fit it into the apartment entryway and the quick turn.. but the owner of the moving company persevered.  They had to take the door off it's hinges, and take the cover to the light fixture off and shimmy it inch by inch through the door. I swear it took them half an hour to get in in.

Never mind getting it in the door, just getting it around the sharp right angled corners did not help either..I do not know how it will ever get out of here.  It will either have to be broken up or hauled over the balcony..

The recliner is easier. The top comes off.. and it is in 2 pieces.. That is the good thing about La-Z-Boy...very expensive though.. I was working at the time I bought it..
i've heard that La-Z-Boy makes great recliners.

your sofa/sofa bed sounds wonderful! ahhh, yes! i've been through movers having problems with getting a piece of furniture into my home. in my case, it's my executive desk. it's been moved 3 times, and two of those times the movers had a bear of a time getting it through the door and into the new home.

We have 9 rooms. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths plus my little dressing room, foyer, kitchen/dining/office and living room. You could almost call the laundry closet a room. Its deep enough that the litter boxes are in front of the washer & dryer; but thats it.

I love my house but I do wish we could have a basement and a non-tv type room off the kitchen. Maybe for pur school space. But at least somewhere calm & quiet.

My favorite room is my kitchen/dining/office/school room. Its where I spend most of my time.
your home sounds lovely!

My house is "4 room" by the way that we count for real estate here (double parlour and two bedrooms) but is in fact 7 rooms (adding non-eat-in kitchen, toilet, and bathroom).

Both of the bedrooms are small, which suits me very well since I mostly just sleep in the bedroom, and almost all of the space is in the giant living area which we usually keep open but can be closed off into two rooms with pocket doors. So that would be my favourite room(s).

I find the idea that rooms without built-in closets "aren't really bedrooms" to be very funny. My bedroom is the only room in my house without built in closets. The guest room would have previously been the same size as my room but is mostly taken up with a lot of added-later built-in closets which are great storage. The remaining space is just wide enough for a two-person bed, so I have a single that can be pulled out into a double (since you can't open the closet doors with a double in there). It's perfect as a guest room. My old house had 0 built-in storage except the utility closet with the water heater and electrical meters, and I love having storage, but buying closets as furniture seems totally normal to me.

I'm also always interested in the different sensibilities on what constitutites tiny/small/large when you compare major cities to suburbs to countryside and also America/Australia to Europe to Asia.

Thanks! I'm quite fond of it.

My house was built around 1930. It has art deco details and was built right at the end of the period where the double-parlour layout was popular. I prefer styles a few decades older, but this definitely has the feel of an end to Victorian styles rather than what would have been the cutting-edge modernism from the 20s. I'm really quite in love with the place.

ahhh, art deco is interesting! not my favorite style either, but done well and tastefully can be quite lovely.

In the case of my house you can determine the Art Deco era (if you didn't know the year it was built) because the decorative moulding is all angular with rectangle-based patterns. Considering how many layers of paint were on the moulding when I started painting, I'm probably glad I'm not losing art nouveau or baroque swirls under all the paint. I might still strip it to the wood and start over, but it's not high on my priority list right now.
