Bleeding and shiny (pus?) next to cat's eye. Infected? Something else?

Earlier this week my kitty Alena got a scratch at the bottom of her eye and on the outside of the eye, probably from fighting with her sister Rachel (they've not been happy with each other lately). The under the eye scratch has healed, but the one beside it has grown and become shiny over the past 2 days and bleeds D: I cleaned it (very very carefully) with rubbing alchohol but it isn't improving. Her inner eye corner is getting shiny and red/brown build up too, which I'm gently wiping away every day.

What could this be? Just an infection, or maybe conjunctivitis (I'm not familiar with what it looks like in cats)? I can not take her to into the vet- any car ride sparks a cardiac chrisis which ends up in 1-2 days ER stay- which we absolutely can not afford. I have a 4 Paws I can call for a house visit, but it's pretty expensive, and we are so strapped for cash (we're still paying off her last $1.5k ER stay from last month). So I'm really hopig maybe it's something I can resolve on my own.
If it doesn't get better at all (or gets worese for that matter) in the next day or two I'll call. But even then they only do by appointment it might be a few more days until she can be seen.

Is there anything at all I can do for her? Any idea what it is? Can neosporin be used? I'm worried about using anything becuase it's so close to her eye.. It looks so painful :( I just want to help my poor baby!

She is an inside cat, she's spayed. She has congestive heart failure, and currently has some acne (but that's getting better). If that information helps at all. I can try and get some better photos tomorrow, she didn't want to sit still for me tonight. Not that I blame her, I wouldn't want someone poking around my face if I had somethig like that going on :(

Oh dear, that does look really painful.

None of us are vets so we can't really diagnose exactly what is wrong with her. I suggest you e-mail this photo to your vet, explain what happened and ask his/her advice. My vet will prescribe antibiotics and antiseptic cream for my cats, as long as he has all the cat's details, medical history and current weight etc.

Would your vet be willing to do that?

I ams sorry to say this, but I would really spend the money and get a Vet visit, as soon as possible.. You do not want that to become infected..and her to lose her vision... or eye...

Please make an appointment....asap...

It must be so sore...In the mean time, I would try to keep it clean..using sterile saline eye wash...It is too close to the eye to ignore...She needs medical care..and antibiotics...and probably eye drops.. you do not know if she has a scratch on the cornea of her eye either...only the Vet can identify that..

Whelp, it's gotten worse in 24 hours- she's now squinting and the area around her eye is now looking swollen. I found a reasonably priced 4 Paws vet that does house calls in the area, I'll be calling them and setting up an appointment ASAP (they weren't open on the weekend). Hoping she just needs some antibiotics and eye drops to clear it up.

I've heard of human heart patients can have trouble healing sometimes- not sure if that's accurate. But if it is, it would make sense that a cat with a heart condition would too. My poor baby girl :( She's gone through so much since March with her health, what with her heart and all, and now this. Maybe while the vet is here they can give me something for her acne too, becuase that isn't getting better. It's spread to her upper lip and corners of her mouth (started on the chin).

Poor girl. I'm glad you were able to find a vet that does house calls.

Please keep us updated on her progress.

4 Paws came today and took a look at her. Gave her a shot of antibiotics they say should last 2 weeks and should clear it up! Said it should help with her acne too. They told me just to use warm water to dab it when needed, and if she continues to groom it too much to get her a cone. Hopefully we can avoid that though.

They said to check in in a week by sending a photo. It was oozing a lot yesterday, but seems to have stopped today and is actually scabbing a little. Hopefully it clears up for her soon! They were really nice and they said Alena was an excellent patient.

That's good! You were lucky to get the shot rather than have to give her oral medication for two weeks. Hope she continues to improve

That's so great to have a vet do house calls! I hope Alena continues to improve and heals up quickly.

Eye seemed to be doing a bit better, then she groomed it and it's bleeding and pussing again. Going to call the vet tomorrow and see if they have a cone. I hate to put her in a come of shame, but she wont' leave the thing alone and is making it worse :(

I wish I could do more for her. Every time I look at her I just feel so bad and magically wish I could make it better! It looks so painful. I'm sure you all know what that's like.
