Hello, I'm a bit new here and the reason I joined is for my kitten Martin.

When we first got him, he was unable to use his hind legs he never attempted to use them, he simply dragged himself around, but now he tries to use them even manages to get up for a moment before going numb I believe again ( he was attacked as a small kitten by a large dog and thrashed about, apparently), they "pop" out of socket and stay limp but straight unless you help them back into place but, they always pop back out, we assume the muscles could be stretched or the tendand's... But, here is my question to y'all; will we ever get him to a point to walk even just a bit - it doesn't bother him nor us that hes a bit different from our other feline companions. He cannot use the bathroom at all without stimulation, he eats, drinks and does everything else normally aside from walking or going pee or poop on his own. We were told that surgery could help him because it might not be an impossible goal to help him recover from the traumatic event, even to get a wheel chair for him would work however we've not the funds to do this unfortunately.

I'm sorry for the rambling, I just have hopes for my little friend :(

He can get better.  I would suggest placing his back legs under him, and gently massaging the hip area.  Lie him on his back, and "bicycle" his back legs.  I had a kitten born about 25 years ago who dislocated his back hips in the birthing process.  We massaged and bicycled to the point that he actually was able to walk and trot around, although he was never much of a jumper.  He lived a long and healthy life.

As for wheelchairs, if you will do a bit of googling, you should be able to make on yourself.  I remember seeing a video clip of a wheelchair made of leggos for a kitten!  I'm positive with a little searching and imagination, you can do this!

As long as you are willing to help him with his potty chores, there's no reason that he can't be a very happy cat!

He's so luck to have you!  Make sure you go to our "New Cats on the Block" thread, and introduce yourself to everyone!  AND we would love pics of your baby boy!
