Hi everyone!
One of my cats (Uszka) has FIC and we finally gave in and stared her on Amitryptiline. However, we only got one dose into her thus far. Pill pockets or crushing and hiding it in her favorite food (tuna) is a no go. Compared to my boy who just swallows everything without chewing, Uszka chews her food and as soon as she tastes the meds she starts foaming and hides for hours at a time. Forcing it into her mouth is also not an option because she is such an anxious cat that any stress triggers a variety of health problems. I asked my vet to order the medicated cream but that may take a while. ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have a cat that foams at the mouth every time I give her any kind of med (chicken flavored or not). She just gets totally stressed out. But she only hides for a few minutes. Doestrogen the medicine have a bitter flavor? Maybe you can go to a local compounding pharmacy and have them either put it in a gel cap (something you can also do yourself) or compound it into something more palatable? For my girl, I have to wrap her up in a towel like a burrito to even give her meds. And that's 3 times a day. Not fun, especially now that she's on a stool softener (1.7 ml each time...talk about hard getting that amount in her mouth!). I would try gel caps (you can get those at a health food store) or getting the meds compound ed into something tasty.

Yeah I will definitely get the Amitryptiline dermal cream next week but I don't want to discontinue the meds in the meantime. I need to find a way to trick her into eating it until then.
