In a week or two I am going to be switching my one year old black girl to adult food I know with dry food it it 3/4 kitten and 1/4 adult then half and half of each and then last 3/4 adult and 1/4 baby. But how is the introduction done with canned food and what is the amounts used.

When i would introduce Wet food to a cat that hasnt had any i usaully start by giving them a small portion of the can maybe 1/4 with dry food and put them side by side, then after about a week do 2/4 and a little less hard food and contunie the cycle till you get your cat on wet, it would still be good to give your cat a bowl maybe once or twice a day to help out. i also give treats but thats a different story :)

This article explains how to transition from kibble to wet food, and has lots of great tips for easing things along too :) [article="31138"][/article]

:doh3: Sorry! I totally misunderstood :doh2:

Switching between types of canned food is generally far less problematic than with dry. I'd probably do it over a few days to be safe - you can use similar ratios as dry, but over a shorter time span. Whereas with dry, you want to tradition over a least a week (longer if you see signs of an upset tummy), with the canned food I'd aim for maybe 3 days or so. Again, if you see softer poop, or any other signs of tummy upset, just go a bit slower. You'll know very quickly if you've gone too fast.

Basically, though, it's not something to stress about. I've occasionally had to make abrupt food transitions, and there's rarely anything worse than a couple of bowel movements going towards diarrhoea. I'm sure your kitten will do just fine :)

As to the amount of canned food, that entirely depends on your cat, and how much dry food you are feeding.  All I can really tell you is that since you are splitting the food up, you certainly don't want to feed the amount that it says on the can

Maybe this article will help you:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-much-food-should-i-feed-my-cat
