We recently became fur parents to a 4 week old aprox. Tailess kitten. At first we cleaned her butt which was swollen a little, but is doing fine now. She is now 5 weeks. Our worry is balance.... She flops backward if she tries to stand up on back legs to play. I know of cats born tailess or bob tail, but is our little Minerva going to need kitty PT? Do we need to do special play with her. Our two older cats flick tail for her the dogs are letting her sleep with them but avoid her sharp nail play. She climbs ok ask my poor wife her legs lol. She plays hatd, flips over tray table bar, oyher chairs etc. We are just worried. Her brother has a stubb her sister a whole tail.our fried found them in a box abandoned on Labor Day.

Welcome to TCS, Falcon & family!! Bless you for taking in those kittens - you are a real cats' hero! I have had former feral kittens with a stub tail but don't recall any balance issues. However, I have taken in feral kittens who acquired blindness from Feline Herpes and while they took some time to adjust, fast forward 5 years and they are able to live outside and lead very active lives, including successfully hunting moths and mice! My gut feeling is that Minerva will learn to adjust, although she could have a balance issue from issues with her ears. And don't be shy about correcting her when she jumps on your wife's legs - better to learn when those claws are still tiny and flexible. See you in the forums! Susan

We are blessed to have her. The people who found her are Heroes. They have found and fosterd a couple abanonded litters. We are just furmoms. 3 sm dogs and now 3 cats. We were worried in the begining that she might have nerve damage to her anus or trouble pinching off the feces. Her little anus was so swollen it pushed out a bit. So every time she used the box we gently with a warm cloths washed her butt. Running watwr did not cause meowing, but the touch did for a few days. But once the swelling went down she was fine. We rubbed her belly and gently pressed her anal area. Not being sure how old she was. We all guesses 3 or 4 weeks then. Now we think she is 5 weeks. Found on Labor Day. Wr took her home from her saviors that Friday. Any sugestions on how to help her with balance? Wr are dangling het favorite fishies over head encouraging her to rise up and reach. I know babies need to learn. We want to do it right.

Update on our Minerva McG, tail cut off kitten. Well our sweet baby is getting bigger, she seems ok with her balance, so no worries. Shadow our black female cat mother of Cy our half Maincoon black male have pretty much accepted her. Thoe when she tries to jump on them to play Cy has more patience. In fact he seems to be her teacher in all things Cat. Wish I could share the great fly hunt.....lol. She still tries to play with my bare feet and our hands ouch. We are working on distracting frail human flesh for proper toys. I am calling her my Chicken Hawk..... If there is chicken of any kind around It's Her's.... Just ask her. Lol. The wife and I were going through some depression. We just lost our house health expenses and she came and brought life again. Even our small dogs love her. And she their bushy tails. Not to thrilled with that ask them. Lol. We sit in our chairs both dogs and cats and people, and we sucumb to the Power Of The Purr. Would not have it any other way.
