I a little freaked out about that medication.  The cat thats in the hospital on IV had a shot of that right away and it didn't seem to help.  That one has FIV and the cat that just started sneezing yesterday doesn't have FIV  Not that that makes any difference.

I have been posting on and off all week about the first cat that came down with it and basically I don't think anything I did helped him.  The convenia, the doxy, the lysine.

I am not sure what to do with this cat I guess Im in for another 9 days of pure hell.

I have heard about Tamiflu,  T-Cyte which may be called LTCI   but I don't know of any vets in my town that use it.

Seems like the URI  is more like a virus than an infection cause the first sick cat was on day 7 of Doxy with no change at all.

Hello, I am brand new to this site and have not even had the chance to post my story, but I lost my 11 yr old cat on may 16 2016 and he had been given the Convenia. Please do not allow the vet to give your cat this injection, it is a terrible antibiotic that will stay in your cats system for 65-70 days and your cat will slowly deteriorate. I was not informed by the vet of the side effects, i researched it on my own and was terrified at what he had been given and the fact that I trusted the vet. My Bubba suffered as a result and although he managed to fight all the way to the 65th day, I believe he had a seizure in the middle of the night and i woke up to find his lifeless body. I have so much guilt that I didnt ask about the drug before it was given to him, had I, he may still be with me. My cat meant the world to me, i loved him as though he was my child. I cry everyday because I miss him so much.

Please do not let your cat get this shot, there are other antibiotics that work and do not have the side effects that Convenia has.

Yes I know about the controversy around that antibiotic and thats why I have decided against it.  My other cat who was the first one to come down with the URI was given Convenia  and perhaps thats why he is taking so long to recover….and lets hope he does recover.  He's still in the hospital.   Its only been about 3 weeks since he was given it.  I am bracing myself for the worst. I saw no signs of improvement so he was put in the hospital yesterday.

I appreciate your telling you horrific story  and am so sorrow about your cat.  It must have been a complete nightmare.   People need to know the dangers around some medications so they can make an informed choice.  I didn't know anything about Convinia, but I do now.

I guess I will just let this cat that just got symptoms last night ride it out as it doesn't seem like much will help him

Thank you.  The first cat that came down with it, the one with FIV has been in the animal hospital for 6 days on an IV and 2 antibiotics.  He is holding steady no better or worse.  I have never had a cat have to be on an IV for so long.

The second cat who is younger and does not have FIV has been sneezing for about 4 days but it does not  seem to be progressing to more severe symptoms  It looks like his immune system is strong enough to get him through this thing

I decided not to give the Convenia and let him fight it on is own.   I don't know why they call this an infection because it seems like its viral as antibiotics never seem to help

I just wonder if I will ever see my kitty thats in the hospital again.  How long can he just be in this holding pattern?

I don't know much about kitty URI meds because I've never had to deal with that.  You mentioned Tamiflu.  My mom and sisters were given the human version of that the last time they got the flu virus and it seemed to helped.  Maybe you should call all the vets in your surrounding area until you find one that uses it.
