My pregnant cat, Sushi, started rooting for a place to have her kittens this morning. So I've been keeping an extra eye on her. She's overly affectionate, and has had discharge that she's been licking away. However, she was sleeping on my bed a while ago and I moved her and there was bloody/clear discharge. This is her first litter and I just wanted some advice.

Welcome to TCS.  Yes, we have some info for you, and there will usually be some folks on line as you go through the process.

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

It sounds like she is very close to giving birth.

How is she doing now?

Well she's eaten two cans of cat food and is now sleeping. She wakes up every five minutes or so and cleans 'herself' lol. Still having the same discharge. She is very cuddly with me but is not tolerating my dog that she usually loves at all.

You should take off her collar before she delivers. You don't want kittens getting caught in it.

Can you make sure that she stays 100% inside and away from intact males until the kittens have weaned?

yes she definitely won't get outside. She basically doesn't know our front door exists and I've forbidden my boyfriend from going out the back. Thank you so much for the collar tip! And I've already made her spay appointment for the third of december! I really wish my neighbor would get her male neutered, especially since her other female cat is rooting around underneath my porch as we speak -.- I actually did not know that you could spay a female before their first heat cycle. I definitely will remember that

Oh, absolutely. She's as large as a cantaloupe.

Poor thing. She needs a nest inside your neighbor's home for the safety of herself and her kittens. Are you on good enough terms with your neighbor to have a chat with her about her cats?

Yes I've told her a few times and she insists the cat isn't her responsibility but she feeds it and she lets it in and out of her house. That makes it her cat to me. Plus, she's been feeding it and everything since I moved in next door about a year ago. No updates on Sushi, although she still has discharge. All she wants to do is eat and eat and eat. She hates her nest but likes my unorganized closet.

If she's not claiming ownership, could you help to find a rescue for the poor thing?

She's on my porch now feeding her three new kittens. I've already found someone to foster them until I can find homes for them. My neighbor didnt even care when I told her. My cat Sushi has yet to have her kittens.

Is the porch closed in?  If not, could you move them inside until the foster can come?  You don't want to risk mom running off.

And for the male, any chance that a rescue network could help to get him neutered?

Thank you for all you are doing!!
