Little Jack went and had his second injection and chip yesterday, the nurse said to bring him back in 2 months to be castrated but that would make it the middle of winter in the UK and I have to get the bus to the vets as I don't drive also I have read online that boys should be done at 4 months Jack is about 14 weeks he weighs 1.3 kg

When do you neuter your cats and is there a minimum weight

I'm not sure about minimum weight, but I've frequently read that the average age to do it is 4-5 months, and they can even be neutered as early as 2 months.   Just monitor his weight and diet afterwards, since their metabolism will slow down a bit after neutering.

The norm in Germany is 6 months for both males and females, though a few vets will do it earlier if the kitten is 1.5 to 2.0 kg. Pediatric spays/neuters are more common in North America than in Europe, though that could be changing.

I live in the UK also and my vet will neuter at 5/6 months. I have a 16 week old kitten who will be done at 6 months. It's not such a big operation for boys, not invasive and I believe no stitches. Yours should be fine. If you are concerned about the return journey can a friend or family member give you a lift. If not are you in a position to get a taxi.
