what do you do if your cat bites

My male neutered cat is on a diet and he seems to stay very hungry. I sometimes weigh out his good but lately I have been estimating it. I know he is probably getting more than enough and slowly losing weight. He has started first nibbling at my leg when it's near time to eat and just now it was harder than that enough to hurt. I know some would disagree but I sprinkled him with a little water. I don't know what to do. He gobbles his food but i know he's getting enough. Please suggestions.

May I know how old is your kitty? And how many times is he fed in a day and what's the amount.
When he gobbles food, is this the first time or always? It could be that he is not fed enough either in amount or times. Or is there another cat near him while he is eating that has been stealing his food? Or he could have worms. Has he been de-wormed?
My boy started off wolfing diwn his food in the beginning as he was a rescue and have not been eating and therefore he is afraid that I take his food away and therefore he wolf down his food. After many feelings, he realized that I'm not gonna steal his food and he slowed down his munching and also whole he is eating, I keep saying to him gently to eat slowly. Up till today, he takes his time to eat. No more rushing. He is fed several times a day with enough of food each time. So, these are one or two things about your kitty gobbling down his food.
The biting could be just play aggression. My boy still does that. He'll ambush and then pounce. But I say to him firmly to stop biting and I stopped moving and distract him by knocking on something and I have his toys all over so that whenever he does that, I'll put it between his mouth and my leg and walk away. No need to shout or scream or use water to sprinkle on him.

Sometimes cats get so into their play that they forget themselves. Don’t use your hand as a toy with your cat; instead use a toy that keeps your hands a safe distance from his mouth. If you think your cat actually goes after you during play and it is more than just incidental contact, call a time out.  You can do this by turning your back to him as soon as he bites and cutting off the play immediately.  Don’t speak to him or resume play for one minute.  After a few cycles of this he will get the message.
