Hi all, Garfield is 17 weeks old and ivr only noticed it now the mornings are darker an i have to put the light on while getting ready but when i do he squints closing his eyes really slowly 2/3 times then is fine.....is this normal? I know its horrible as a human to turn the light on when its dark an your eyes need to adjust and im hoping that is all it is with him. Do u think hes ok? Thanks for your replies in advance x

Eyes that are in the dark, whether human or cats, they are sensitive to sudden bright light. Therefore we squint our eyes and the yes have to adjust to the sudden brightness and we blink our eyes.
Do you have a night light in your room? You can sleep with a night light on or turn in on in the morn when you get up. I sleep with the night light through out so that I can see where my boy is and I don't accidentally step on him when he gets off the bed.
I also have a night light on all night in the hall for him when he gets up around 3:30am to get out of the room. And when I feed him at 5:15am, I'll turn on the toilet light in the kitchen first before turning on the main light. That way, it's easier on the eyes, his and mine before I turn on the main light.

@TabbyTom "Eyes that are in the dark, whether human or cats, they are sensitive to sudden bright light. No i couldn't sleep with a night light on as i wouldn't sleep but i do put a low bedside lamp on in the room of a morning, its the main lights in the living room and kitchen which he squints at basically as he walks through evey room by which point we get to the kitchen and really his eyes should be well accustomed to the light by then so hence the reason for my post as i am worried about his sight. Obviously me just being a overly worried mummy ;-) Thank you for your reply xx

My boy do squint at times especially when he is in my room. Not sure if it's the a/c that's drying to his eyes. But I do notice he blink his eyes when I turned on a brighter light but soon after he does not blink anymore.
If unsure, then maybe should check with the vet and have a check on his eyes if you are worried that something is affecting his sight. Other than that, his walk and running and eating and chasing his toys are ok?

That stopped your worrying [emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]127995[/emoji]

Unless he's doing it throughout the day or if the eyes are watery or red from soreness, then better have it checked by the vet.
Guess it's sensitivity to the light and that's why never ever use a camera flash on a cat. Many people don't know about it. Their eyes are super sensitive to lights.
Sometimes it's due to dryness, like in the a/c room.
