Kitten wheezing? Sneezing? Worried!

I adopted a kitten about three weeks ago named Ava. I am due to take her to her post adoption check up. I've been a bit concerned, because about three times now that I've caught she has paused, stopped, and made a horrid wheezing type behavior. Her whole abdomen goes in and out pretty rapidly and she seems quite disconcerted. This also is accompanied by really breathy, noisy noise (not sure if vocal or nasal, or both). Before I adopted her the shelter did very extensive testing on her and I have all the paperwork. She's only been inside since I've gotten her and she seems very healthy other than these strange attacks. They only last a few seconds, but being a worried cat mom it seems like forever. I've read online about possible reasons for this, and most of them seem rather unlikely. Two times it has been after eating wet food, which made me concerned about an allergy, but last night it happened mid playtime, which makes me think asthma? Or am I overreacting? I will ask the vet of course, but until our appointment later this week I am curious if any of you have advice or experience. I'm not familiar with cats much. She's my first since I was a little girl myself. My boyfriend seems to think it's just bad sneezing.
