I have a new cat, actually a kitten, who is curious about the outdoors. Every time we go to leave she wants to go out the door also. She is under our feet and not easy to move. Any ideas on how to distract her so I can get out the door without her running out too?

Welcome to the Cat Site and to the world of kitties who love to escape! I have one just like that, and it's a pain to always be dodging the cat to go out the door. Sometimes, he's busy somewhere else, and I can sneak out, but if he sees me get my purse and keys and put on my coat, he flops down in front of the door so I can't go out. If he's really difficult to dissuade from the door, I put a few pieces of kibble on the basement stairs and close the door. There's a litter pan in the basement, but I don't leave him locked down there for long. If I am leaving for a long time, the only thing to do is pick him up, go out the door, put him back in, and then close the door.

You have to do this in reverse when you come in. Inevitably, he's waiting for me at the door and will run out if I let him. I push him back and back, telling him to back up as I go, making enough room to get in the door myself. Then watch him like a hawk to turn around and close the door. I close the garage door before I even try to open the door from the garage.

Sorry, it's a real pain to have an escape artist around.
