Can anyone tell whether this feral cat has been fixed?  The ear looks like it's been snipped but I can't tell for certain.  Plus, she looks awfully fat to me.  Does she look pregnant to any of you more experienced folks?

I work as a regional manager for a property management firm and have seen this cat a few times.  She's very sweet and will allow you to pet her.

The "Declaw Special" is a photo I snapped last night enroute to this property.  I'm mystified why any vet would advertise such a thing.

Looks like it's snipped to me

and I would never go to that vet. I bet they lose more business by the advertising

Looks tipped to me too.  What an awful vet.  Can't even imagine advertising such a thing.

Wow, I'm so glad to hear that you guys think she's been fixed!

I guess she's just . . . fat?

I would so love to be able to take this cat home but my partner would disown me if I did.  I have such a weakness for orange cats.

Thanks for making me feel better.  I really appreciate it.

Most orange kitties are also male.  Not all, but the majority.  The kitty might be getting fed elsewhere, perhaps with a colony or also the kitty could have worms.

Is it possible to feed the kitty and see about a winter shelter?  At least then it would still be taken care of.

I got some Revolution on her last night so that should help with any roundworms and ear mites.  Tonight I'm going to dose her with praziquantel for tapeworms. I'm in Orlando, Florida, so there's not too much of a winter here.  Since most orange cats are males, I'm wondering now if maybe this is actually a neutered male.  I'll have to get a better look tonight.  And yes, of course, I'll be feeding him/her!

Thank you all so much for your help.  I'm awfully grateful.

Horrible, horrible vet.  I wouldn't dream of going to a vet who advertised such a barbaric procedure.

The property that I've been working on is very distressed.  Right now it's a tax credit property (low income) and a one person household can't make more than $15,500 annually to qualify.  I discovered today that it has a HUGE feral population.

I was attempting to get some tapeworm meds into Orange Kitty when about four others wandered up.  Below is Orange Kitty's nether regions.  I'm guessing female?

I came across a terrible looking tuxedo that I thought had mange.  But one of the residents--a very nice fellow who looked exactly like Anslo from "Keeping Up Appearances"--told me otherwise. He said that the tuxedo used to be incredibly sweet but that some cretin who didn't like cats had purposely dumped hot grease from a Fry Daddy onto her.  He said that she laid in the bushes for days howling.  He and a few other residents tried to help her but but she was frightened and in horrible pain and tried to bite each time they got close.  Eventually she wandered away, they thought to die, but then in about a month they saw her.  Below is what she looks like now.

If I live to be a million years old I still won't understand the people who could do such a thing.  After I fed her I actually got back in my car and cried.

Poor baby!  I want to dump hot grease on whoever dumped it on her!  I swear, I hate people more and more every day.  I would love to live in a cabin away from all other humans (except my family, of course) and a hundred cats.

Me too!  I've been stewing about it all night.

I'd like to do some real bodily harm to whoever did this, which I know is wrong.

I just can't understand why anyone would want to inflict such awful pain and suffering on another being.

On a more positive note, I'm so glad to hear that Orange Kitty is a neutered boy!  I thought he was a preggers female.

I don't think it's wrong.  Even in the Bible, it doesn't say anything against those who deserve it.  A lot of people point to the commandment that says thou shalt not kill, but that's not a completely accurate translation.  There are 2 words in Hebrew that mean killing; one refers to murder and the other refers to a just killing and the one that means murder is used in every instance where that commandment is referenced in the Bible.  So, even from a Christian point of view, it isn't wrong to want them punished.

It might be illegal, but I won't tell if you don't.

Punished is one thing, inflicting bodily harm on someone who might be neuroatypical or simply broken from past events is something else. Try to take care of those you can take care of, let justice belong to the courts.

Being broken from past events is no reason to harm an innocent creature.  There is no excuse for pouring hot oil over a cat.  I've been through some real hell.  I had an ex boyfriend nearly kill me by giving me a lacerated spleen and kidney and that was a walk in the park compared to other things I've been through.  I have no desire to harm an innocent creature.  And the courts all too often give out lax punishments or allow people to get away with horrible things altogether.  The ex who nearly killed me - and that wasn't the only time he beat me - got three months in jail.  Many courts will give out nothing more than probation to people who abuse and torture animals.  Therefore, I do not in any way think it is wrong to want to hurt someone who intentionally tortured an innocent living being.  There is a special place in hell for people who do horrible things like that.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Personal vigilantism isn't the answer though, especially because a lot of people like that aren't just suffering from bad pasts (many are) but are either neuroatypical (so they simply can't respond to simulation the way most people do) or have had the processes in their brain effectively rewired due to tragic events. That is the issue with using personal anecdotes as a standard from which to judge other people; physical and emotional trauma effects everyone differently, and recent scientific studies suggest that it can literally change the minds of some people. I really do hope you have successfully moved on and are at peace with what happened (lack of justice aside, which is something I don't know one should find peace with).
