Okay so my recently turned 1 year old male cat has been attacking my mom and I. Yesterday morning he was playing on my dresser and he fell in and it closed on his tail. He was hanging from it and crying out in pain and couldnt get free, when I went to go grab him to get his tail free he went insane and viciously attacked me. He latched on to my neck and arm and I started gushing blood everywhere and got very deep wounds on my hand. My mother came to help me and she tried to calm him down because he was crying in pain and he attacked her hand when she tried to pet him, she got really deep wounds too. We walked out of my room and then he randomly lunged at the back of my leg and attacked me there. I was nowhere near him this time and he had stopped crying at this point.

We had an appointment to get him neutered that same day so maybe 30 mins after this whole thing happened we took him to get neutered. Everything was fine he was lethargic when we brought him home but he was being cuddly again and non violent. Not his usual self but thats expected from the anesthesia.

Now today since he cant use clumping litter until his scars heal he got a little pee on him and I went to go wipe him with a pet wipe and he attacked me again!! He attached himself to my arm and now i have even more wounds than the insanely deep ones i already have on my arm. It was as if he thought I was going to hurt him or something. Then he walked away and was licking himself near where my mom charges her phone, she went to go grab her phone and he lunged at her and attacked her leg for seemingly no reason at all.

Now we are nervous messes, we dont know if this behavior is just a culmination of everything hes been through within the last day and Im so nervous to even go anywhere near him my mom and I are avoiding him like the plague. Im scared his behavior will not change and my parents are seriously considering giving him up which breaks my heart but my wounds are crazy and I cant be living in fear in my own home.

please help!!

First, please be patient with him, he's been through a lot.

You said his tail got caught and he hung from your dresser that had to be extremely scary for him.  Later that day when you took him to be neutered, did you tell the doctor what happened to his tail?

It's possible he's in lots of pain from the tail.  I would suggest calling your vet and explain what happened, he may need to see him again, and possibly you could get pain meds for him.

Something happened.  It's nothing to do with you or your family.

Don't give up.  Get all the answers first.

Poor guy, he'll come around.

Hope this helps.

Agree with the above. It's also going to take up to a month for the testosterone to leave his system.

Hi AV22498N

I have some advice that I need to share with you both.

I have had cellulitis from a cat scratch and had to take the shot and antibiotics...for a week.

I suggest you keep a bottle of hydrogen peroxide

and q tips in your bathroom high on a shelf.

If you ever get one scratch a tiny one you need to pour

out in a small disposable cup hydrogen peroxide and dip a  q tip in it till it is soaked and then stick it into the scratch area until it turns white...just in the indented hole from the scratch or the length of the scratch on you..

doing this has saved me many ER trips or having to see a doctor..if your arms starts to have redness or red streaks up or down anywhere you got scratched you need to get to a walk in  clinic fast..and get the shot and the antibiotics..

You can not wait to treat a wound on you for a day, you have to do the process I mentioned within minutes ...and work on it till you see the area clean and white ...down to where you would think the blood supply would be under the skin under your scratch..

We have done well here my husband and I doing this method...with dogs or cats scratching us accidentally or on purpose.. even a bite...on us..

I think your cat will adjust as they say after he gets over his trauma of the dresser..and the neutering and strangers and anes...was enough to scare the cat..it would me...

Just want to help you.. a friend of mine was scratched by her cat whom the lady was older and had the house cat for years all she did was pass her hand by it to get a magazine and he reacted not knowing from his peripheal vision..she was in the hospital for 10 days on IV antibiotics..she lives near me.

thanks for your responses! My mother went to go get her hand checked out because it was very very swollen and red, the doctor said she was developing an infection, she got her tetanus shot and some antibiotics prescribed. I got all my wounds checked out as well and no infection but a slight swelling on my hand in this one area but its gone down and got the tetanus shot and antibiotics as well.

my cat has now seemingly gotten back to normal. My mom and I are still very nervous to act the same way we did with him as before. He comes and kneads on my belly and falls asleep on me but i cant help but be scared that hell attack me again at any moment. Im taking him to the vet to check his incision site from his surgery and to check out this spot on his shoulder that he keeps licking and is bright red. I tried to check it but again im afraid if hes pain or anything that hell attack me again. I think hes in pain because he sits crouching down almost non stop and his eyes are always dilated and stares at me and i read somewhere those are all signs.
