Can anyone help me? My 8 yr old 18lb cat was somehow injured. Declawed himself on 2 paws and has a head injury. He has been to the vet 3 times, but I don't see any improvement with his treatment and time. Been 1.5 weeks now. The vet wants to amputate the toes or possibly the paws and thinks his eye problem is due to medication. He has had not medication in over 10 days. He has a brain jury. He eats with his head to the uninsured side and does not seem to chew it so he know has soft food. His not acting like his normal cute self.

So he's got THREE issues?  eye issue, brain issue and foot issue?  I'm not sure I understand the foot issue.  He pulled out a couple of claws somehow?  I don't see it in the picture, sorry, but I certainly dont understand the need to declaw him or most assuredly amputate the pads or entire foot.  What am I missing here..  What exactly is wrong with his feet at this point?  Are they swollen, bleeding, sore to the touch?

Was he hit by a car?  Are you looking to see improvement with the brain injury?  Those do take time, and sometimes there may not be improvement, depending on the severity of the damage.  Did they make any determination of the damage?  What was the injury to the eye.  I see the third eyelid showing, but that happens when cats are ill, and could be from the brain issue, or as you say, from the meds.

If you are not happy with what this Vet is advising you, have you gotten a second opinion?

for your little guy

Simon fell from a tree causing his paws to be partialy declaw and he hit his head. He died Sept. 29th in my arms due to a brain injury. He was buried near his favorite tree. We love him and miss him so much.

I am so sorry about your poor Simon and glad he was in your arms when he passed.  I was without a laptop at the time this all happened and just found this post because I was mentioned in it earlier.  I hope you will write a tribute to him in the CROSSING THE BRIDGE Forum, which is where we share about the cats we have loved that have passed on.  Please accept all of our condolences.
