My family has a young snowshoe siamese (half siamese) that is very ill, it started off as a diagnosis of spinal stenosis that made her bite at the base of her tail alot, now she will cringe whenever you touch the arch of her back. The vet said that this was a separate problem from the spinal stenosis and could be an abscess or possibly bone cancer. He did an x-ray and didn't find anything, she has an appointment to have a CAT scan done next week. She has been getting lazer treatments for the spinal stenonsis witch seems to be helping. The vet has her on Prednisolone and Gabapentin for the pain but we hate to give it to her because of the horrific side effects, does anyone know of any other pain relievers for cats? She hasn't been herself for the last week or so, she spends her days hiding around the house instead of playing like usual. Has anyone else had a similar problem with their cat and how did you deal with it? Thanks

I have not had that experience but my boy had cancer and what kept him alive and functioning for 4 months after diagnosis was the pain med Buprenex.

It was easy to administer, just put the syringe inside the gums.  I did this while he slept and he was none the wiser.

I think Buprenex is stronger but not sure.

I hope your kitty gets better.

Please keep us posted of her progress

We just got the results of the CAT scan back and it didn't find anything! She was much more active and seemed almost back to her normal self yesterday, maybe she just had some sort of bug or she hurt her back somehow, she no longer cringes when you touch her back.

Yes she is eating and going to the bathroom normally, she was having diarrhea and was peeing in various parts of the house when she was ill but she has stopped doing that now.

Her name is Mia, she is a snowshoe siamese (half siamese and half american shorthair), she looks like a siamese except she has white feet.
