Best anesthesia to use

What is everybodys' view on the best type of anesthesia to use?? I just got three of my rescues spayed and the vet used an isoflurane anesthesia mask for it. I'm just wondering what is considered the safest??

My vet uses Sevoflurane and says that it's the gentlest. It's only a inhalation type, and it doesn't enter any other organs, just the lungs. The pet is immediately alert after it is turned off. It is used in Geriatrics and Pediatrics too.
