Fort Lee, NJ, is an extremely cat-unfriendly town, where you can get summonses for feeding the homeless cats.  If I could assemble a group of cat-loving, Fort Lee tax-payers to attend these monthly meetings, the mayor and town council might be persuaded to institute TNR and allow more care for these cats.  Does anyone have any ideas of how I can meet the cat-lovers in my town who would want to help the neighborhood cats?  Thank you.

Wow, what horrid people! I can totally see not feeding homeless cats to breed, but TNR is a must. Especially where I live. We don't even have a shelter, but a shelter in a neighboring town helps me with TNR, rescue, adoption, etc. Who would pay for the TNR you propose if it were allowed? When I ask the shelter for help, I donate fairly substantially.

The town itself does not have an animal shelter. Fort Lee is part of Bergen County, which has the shelter. Some of the other towns in the county have their own shelters.

Have you thought about starting a Facebook page and asking your friends to share it?

Another thing you could do is put posters up near pet food stores, on Post Office notice boards etc. You need to keep details to a minimum, something like "Do you love cats? Want to help them?" and then an e-mail address or the Facebook page details.

I recommend having a separate e-mail address just for this, rather than using your own address.

What are the shelters in other towns like? Any chance they would help you coordinate this?

Thank you for trying to help. The country I live in has virtually no TNR programs or shelters either. It's down to caring individuals such as yourself to do anything for these cats.

Thank you both for your ideas.  I will contact the shelters in the neighboring towns and start a Facebook page.  The only pet food store that I knew of in Fort Lee has closed.  I could try the Petco which is two towns over.  Thank you.
