Hi,

One of my cats, Hank, has horrible separation anxiety. Every time I walk in the door he won't leave my side. If I'm in another room with the door closed, he cries incessantly. I have another cat for company but he doesn't seem to care. They used to cuddle and he doesn't anymore. I work and my parents work but someone is always around to check up on them every so often in between work/errands/etc.

When I'm home everyone gets played with etc. They have windows and fish tanks for visual stimulation and they have toys. They get raw food and canned food. I spend some time with them in the morning before I leave and obviously at night, but nobody can spend every waking moment with their pets.

I need some help. How can I curb this?

Poor Hank wants his mommy around.

How old is he?  Just curious.  The other kitty you have around for company is that cat the same age?  Were they siblings?  Have they bonded or were was it adopted in hopes of being company for Hank.

I personally don't have doors to close in my small apt so if my girl wants to sit by us anywhere we are we're fine with it.

I'm really not sure why he would be doing this.  Is this new.  I guess I would need answers to the above.  If Hank was an only Kitty then you got the other later he could be trying to claim you as his own.

Good luck with this.  I'll be looking for your response.

He's a year old. Gary (other cat) is the same age. They are bonded, they're not brothers though. They were adopted together from the same place and have been together since they were a month old (they were rescued together).

He's always been very clingy however it's gotten worse since I'm back in school.

Hank & Gary - very sweet.

You don't think that Gary is bullying Hank when you're gone do you?  Just a thought.  My cats used to have "disagreements" behind my back every so often.

Does Hank just want to be near you or does he look to play???  I would imagine if you're trying to study and he's whining for you it would be frustrating, but if he just needs to be near you quietly, I would just let him be with you.

Has he been to the vet recently?  No lumps or bumps that need checking out?  Bathroom habits all the same?  Eating well?

I wish I had answers for you.

I'm hoping a member with this experience will chime in and lend some much needed advice.

Some cats are just this way. One thing that has helped me with Sinbad, is leaving things that smell like me around. I crochet, and so have blankets I've made that smell like me on couches for him to curl into. Laundry will also work for this - my husband leaves his dirty shirt with the cat who pines for him every night for her to snuggle in.
