The colors of Autumn! love them.. apples, pumpkins ~ not the overload on it...

Having the windows open..apple picking..squash..bugs leaving

not caring for:

the shorter days

cooler temps

cold weather..

A Sunny day in the low 70's with no humidity is perfect for me..

Fall. Hmmm. This year, I am looking forward to the cooler weather (or I will, once we get some!) as it's been most even too hot and humid for me. Love the changing leaves. Our black walnut tree is the first to lose its leaves and they've been changing over and dropping now for about two weeks (probably some of that is related to the drought). We're looking forward to being leaf-peepers as we drive to Vermont later on.

There's a different smell and "feel" to fall. I can't explain it; it's almost a crisper feel. The smell of burning leaves (I think we're the only ones who rake and then compost leaves; a lot of our neighbors just burn). The smell of the pool chemicals as we're closing the pool, although we did it early this year.

The sky has a completely different look in the fall. We can be working outside and we'll hear the geese honking as they start their journey south. We look up and there they are! Sometimes, it's just a small group, but we've seen some fairly large skeins of geese. They're amazing to hear and to watch.

The smell of a good campfire.  My GF called me the other night and we set a date for our first fall campfire, Oct 15. Plenty of mountain pies, plenty of toasted marshmallows and s'mores, a couple bottles of good wine. And then just sitting there, watching the fire burn down. No need for conversation.

Apple picking! And then making applesauce. And apple dumplings. And apple pies. Apple cider doughnuts, This year, we're going to go a wee bit overboard with apple fritters. I've already promised Dear Richard.

Boots! I get to wear boots!
I dearly love my boots. Still a bit too warm right now; I'm still wearing my sandals. But soon!

@Kat0121, I wish you could come up and spend a few days with us once fall hits us proper.

The colors are definitely a favorite for me.

Beautiful weather, no heat or air conditioning.  It's supposed to be 90 today and I am still running the air conditioner.  It really still feels like summer here.

Fresh apples and pumpkin baked goods.  Since it's usually just me I very rarely bake anymore so I have to wait for them to show up in the bakery section at the supermarket.  I also love pecan pie in small amounts and very occasionally because it is so rich.

Thanks. I'd love to meet you, Rick and all the kids.

But I do remember fall. We weren't the best of friends. Thousands and thousands of leaves that had to be raked. Back to school time and every day that went by, there was the voice that got louder and louder. The voice of WINTER and it was saying, "I'M COMING FOR YOU AND I AM GOING TO MAKE YOU MISERABLE! THERE IS NO STOPPING ME!"

I can deal with the heat. I rarely go outside during the day anyway. I much prefer the night time. I was outside Tuesday night (morning) at 3 AM putting the bins at the curb and I was in heaven. The world was dark and quiet. The moonlight was soft and gentle. it wasn't  hot. There was a bit of a breeze and there was no giant fireball in the sky trying to scorch my skin.

It will all be worth it in January when we are walking around in T shirts and NOT shoveling or worrying about black ice (one of my worst enemies).

We don't get the beautiful colors of leaves changing here as much as some do since we're surrounded by mostly oaks and pines but still....as Pam @Winchester  said, there's an inexplicable feel to fall that for me makes life feel cozier, calmer somehow.  I love the crisper air, snuggling up with hubby and kitties by the fireplace in the evenings.  It's my favorite season.

Boots! I am wearing boots this morning!
Today's ankle boots are just a simple brown with a zipper up the inside. With a three-inch heel. The best thing about fall is that I can wear boots!

That's great.

How funny.  No boots here yet--I was excited because I got to wear flip-flops and capris this past weekend.
We had an unusually sunny and hot weekend here, just beautiful.

I've been hearing from a lot of friends about the unusual heat in California! Sounds like it's gonna cool off soon though.

What do I like about autumn? EVERYTHING. I mean, it's AUTUMN. Our leaves aren't really changing yet here in the Chicago area, but soon! We drove up to Minneapolis this past weekend to go to a friend's wedding, and a lot of the leaves up there were already turning. We should be soon now

And it's cooler. I love being able to wear a hoodie. I can sleep with my window open and not be hot or too cold. A little chilled maybe, but that's perfect for sleeping. Supposed to be in the low-50s tonight - perfect!

Yesterday was my first day wearing real shoes in forever! I should probably dig my boots out.
