Hi everyone. Looking for some advice here for my boy. Oreo will be 4 years old this January and I just don't know what to do. Oreo tends to meow or yowl at random times. I know he is fine and will only do it for a few seconds but I always get worried. He has had some medical issues (crystals once and constipation) both are controlled via food, wet and dry. So I really don't think anything is wrong with him. He is a talkative cat to begin with but its the yowling noise I just don't like. He usually does this in front of our basemen door, which he is not allowed down as we have a tenant. Or he will go upstairs and just walk around and do it, I call his name and he comes downstairs and goes about his business. Lol. Oreo has been with us for almost 2 years and he is a very sweet boy. Very cuddly and a big mommas boy. I don't know wether to give him trouble when he does this or to not even pay attention to him. It's gotten to be quite annoying. If he is up before me in the morning he will do this until I get up to give him his wet food. So I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, with his history, I can see why you would be concerned, but it occures to me that he ALWAYS gets your attention when he does this...and they pick up stuff like that so fast!  He may just be checking to see which paw your a wrapped around that particular moment!

I was thinking this myself. And it's went on forever and I still worry. Should I just ignore him? I usually call him cookie, unless he has done something wrong, then it's Oreo. lol. So if it persists I yell out Oreo! And he usually stops. I think he may be a little spoiled. Anything you can recommend?

LOL  Not really.  My Hekitty is so spoiled you can smell her two counties over.  She has me totally whipped.  Runs my house with an iron paw.  I just know it when I see it.

Haha. I just love him so much. We have another cat but she does what she wants. She doesn't need attention like he does and I think with him having the issues, and so quick after I got him, he's clung to me. So we will see.

Sounds spoiled rotten.  My boys are, too.  They rule the roost and my job is to bow down to them.  Hehe

Yes his is. Wasn't done till he was 2 before we got him. We adopted him from the humane society. He was with 6-7 other cats when brought in. :(

StacheandRexMom,

This sounds like my boy too. At times he does that.
First, I think he wants attention. He'll meow at a lower tone and then continue like towards a yowl. He does that in the early morning when he is is hungry and wants to be fed. And when I tell him it's too early (4.45am [emoji]128563[/emoji]) and feed him later. When he meows, I'll say sshhh or quiet and he'll stop. After that, he'll march out of the room to the hall mumbling and grumbling. He'll do that like for a good 5 minutes. Then he'll come in again 1/2 hour later and meow with a pathetic tone and that's when I get up to go feed him.
Second, I think it's boredom. He'll do the same thing to get attention to get me to play with him or carry him but that is once in awhile. But most of the time is meow to be carried.
Third, if I'm in the room behind closed doors, or someone else is, he'll sit at the door and start to meow and then a low tone meow to a pathetic let me in meow :lol3: For your case is the basement tenant.
And when he does something wrong like jumping up to pull down clothings that were hung up, I'll say in a stern voice -'January, no'. He'll then immediately stop and look at me with his big eyes which says ' no, not me, I didn't do anything'. Then he'll run away mumbling :lol3:

Try playing more with him and talk more with him. So at least he has someone to talk to :lol3:. But seriously, I talk to my boy whenever he meows a lot. Sometimes he's very talkative. And sometimes when I talk too much, he'll put his paw on my mouth and ask me to shut up :lol3:

My boys put a paw over my mouth, too.  It's hilarious.  I'm like, fine, be that way.  And then i snuggle them anyway.

Lol.......so when my boy talks too much, I put my finger on his mouth but my finger ended up with a 'chomp' by him :lol3:

Exact same thing happened - with both of my boys.  They can tell me to shut up but I can't tell them to shut up.  They have to make sure I don't forget my place - servant to my feline overlords.  Haha
