Like he will not let me sleep in peace unless he's in my bedroom. Thank god im not allergic to cats (I knew I wasn't but I didn't have medical proof til now) I'm fine with him sleeping in my bedroom. The only problem is I don't like sleeping with the door open. So is it outrageous to get another litter box just for my room??? I'm physically disabled and cleaning one litter box is hard, let alone two. But I guess I don't want him to hold it, obviously. Or maybe I just have to grin and bear sleeping with the door open. I don't know, ah.

Speaking of allergies, I do have a dust mite allergy does it make a difference if I get a hypoallergenic litter?

And since we are on the topic of litter, I'm taking him to my friends house to cat sit for 2 days because I'm getting my tub repainted. Do I have to bring the same brand of kitty litter that I'm currently using?

badw0lf,

How old is your cat? As I know, young cats can hold their pee for a longer period of time. The other thing is how much water does your cat drink in a day and is he on wet or dry food?
If on wet food means he can drink less but again depends on how much and how often a day he's fed. Of course if on dry, he needs to drink much more.
Does he have water available to him all day or do you give it to him as and when?
The point here is, for example, my boy sleeps with me every night. He's solely on wet food but he is still given water to drink in between and a teaspoon or so is added to his food each time and he eats at least 5 times a day but he is not fat. So by late afternoon, I stop giving him water to drink and his last meal is between 8-10pm.
Usually after his last meal at 8pm, he'll pee soon after that. I sleep with my door closed and he sleeps through the nite and only wakes up at 4am and asked to be let out and I continue with my sleep for another hour. He only pee at times between 4 and 5 am. And his litter box is out at the kitchen.

But of you have to sleep with the door open, stick a stopper at the door and leave it ajar with opening just nice for your cat to move in and out. That way you don't have to open wide or your cat won't push it wide for you.

I can't comment on dust mites vs hypoallergenic litter.
Also it's better to use the same litter box and same litter brand for your cat for that 2 days if you don't want him to pee all over your friend's house as its a new place to him.

He's 5 and he's free fed dry, wet every weekend. So he drinks a lot of water. I forgot to factor in he is sensitive about the box location so much that he holds it for a day.

I also like keeping the door closed because I will be getting a hepa air filter for my dust allergies. So that's why I thought of having two so during the day when the doors closed, the air filter could just focus on my room. I like your idea of using a door stop, I think I'm just indecisive because of the air filter being effective even when the door is open.

Ok can I just pack the amount of litter that I need or something because I don't need to bring the entire 40lbs.

So I think the door stopper is a better option for you.

I think leaving the door ajar should be not much of an issue with the air purifier.
Also if you you are leaving Roman at your friend's place for 2 days, bring one or two unwashed t-shirts and leave it with him so that he still can have your scent in a new place.

Thank you so much. I will use a door stopper. And bring a shirt of mine. I feel bad because he's a spoiled "only me me me" kitty and my friend has 2 other cats so I hope they get along. My other friends live too far out or they have birds and other pets cats like to...eat. (Fish).

Sometimes my boy refuse to come in to sleep early so I just leave the door ajar so that he can come in later.
I hope Roman get along with the other cats and won't have any anxiety issues.

Cheerio!

Ugh he started this annoying habit of jumping in the bed near my face when I'm sleeping. I tried closing the door already, he's gonna yowl and never stop no matter how much I ignore him. It happens when I shower too, he cries the entire time.

For now I will say - much patience is needed.

I have the same issue. I ended up getting a tiny, cheap litter box for my bedroom. I put it in the closet and I just leave the closet door open at night. My kitten is 14 weeks old, and most night she doesn't use it at all and waits to use her big litter box with the cover on it. She does use it sometimes though, and I'm grateful it's there for her. I'd never want her holding it. I guess it just depends what you hate more: cleaning the boxes, or leaving your door open at night. As for litter, I use Precious Cat Clumping Clay litter. It's amazing, has little to no dust, and no added dyes or scents. It really does clump amazingly! I think this would be a good litter for anyone with sensitivities and good for kitties too.

I don't normally have a litter box in my room, but right now I do because I have a litter of orphan kittens and it's just easier to have them in the room with me. I was using clay litter, but the dust was bothering me, so I switched to silica and it's been fine.

Personally, I like to have extra litter boxes because, while there are more of them to clean, they get less traffic, so cleaning them is easier. I do plan on getting a litter robot as soon as I can afford to, though. I have spinal arthritis and some days it's too painful to do any chores, really (I also got a Roomba and a dishwasher recently -- let the robots do the cleaning! lol).

I, too, have a Roomba and wow it made my life easier. Litter robot sounds great too but the cleaning process like taking it apart sounds not so great.
