So there I was in bed, and I realized...QUESTION!!! And here I am.

Is there a particular book or author who has the power to touch you deeply?

For me, it is anything by Kris Radish.  She writes so powerfully about the friendships that women are capable of if they dare to trust.  If I had to pick one, I couldn't.  If I had to pick two, though, it would be "The Elegant Gathering of White Snows," and "Hearts on a String."

I don't know that there's any book that has really touched me deeply. I have my favorites authors, of course, and my favorite genres that I stick with, but I'll read pretty much anything.

I will say that I've laughed and cried my way through the Outlander series. Haven't done that with any other books that I can remember.

I think my favorite book series of all time is The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M Auel

Other than that, I'm with @abbysmom. Fluffy, escape fiction for me please.

Isabel Allende's House of the Spirits was my all time favorite.  I think I've read every book she's written.

i'd have to say there are two authors like that for me.

Gwen Cooper, who wrote Homer's Odyssey. through reading that book, i learned to live life to it's fullest each and every day, and to make the most of every situation life throws at me.

and Chaim Walder's People Speak series.

The first author that jumps to mind is John Irving. I've read all his books - most are fantastic (the more recent ones haven't been up to par unfortunately - not bad, just not as great).

My favorites have been A Prayer for Owen Meany.  Also loved The Hotel New Hampshire, Cider House Rules and of course, The World According to Garp.

Even Now and Ever After (a 2 part series) from Karen Kingsbury.  Tear jerkers!!  I think all her books are; but these I felt especially emotionally invested in.  I read them when my first was still an infant (Even Now) and DH and I met a few months before 9-11 and started dating a few months after; while he was in the military.  So Ever After brought many many tears too.  I probably couldn't have read it back when DH was in the military.  Too personal; too close to home!

I don't normally look for things THAT deep and intense. I read to relax, for a mini vacation.  Karen Kingsbury is very talented; but I can only read so much of her work at once.  I like series; but with her work being SO emotional; I just can't do whole series of her books.

The Decamerón, by Giovanni Boccaccio!

I never expected that this book, written in the 14th. century, would be so readable, so enjoyable, so funny and so fresh today.
