My cute little animal used to be super cuddly. There's another thread that explains why he's probably less cuddly, and as far as I can tell it seems legit. (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/44900/my-cat-isnt-affectionate-anymore) Basically, he's happy and secure. Makes sense to me. He still demands attention constantly, eats like a horse, and wants me to play with him all the time. But when it comes to snuggling...well, I can't even pet him without getting bitten because he's trying to play. He likes to cuddle and bathe me when I sleep but even that's gotten kind of infrequent. During the day he sleeps on the floor near me rather than the couch next to me like he used to.

Question though, and personal and professional opinions welcome, would it be mean of me not to play with him for a few days and see if the cuddliness comes back? Maybe he'll get snuggly if he's not getting any attention. My (ex)boyfriend used to never play with him, so Claws would snuggle him because he knew it was the only attention he was going to get. I'm really just tired of not being able to pet my cat without getting bitten and never getting cat snuggles. It feels like he tricked me until I adopted him. (The adoption from my now ex boyfriend was finalized a month ago.) Yes, I know cats aren't capable of this. Yes, I am taking it way too personally. But I thought I was getting a cuddling, happy blob. As I type this, he sits here demanding I throw the mouse while I get nothing out of all the playing besides making him happy because I love him.

I play with him a ton, and he's always around me involved in whatever I do. I love him. He clearly loves me. I just want a little less biting and a little more snuggling. Am I mean if I just kind of ignore him for awhile to see his response?

I wouldn't ignore him.  He won't understand why you're doing that.  Do you play with him with a wand toy like Da Bird?  He can get lots of interactive play with a toy like that, and will have the feathers to bite and claw instead of your hand.  It will also tire him out and he may feel more like snuggling after he's tired.

Also, a month isn't that long for him to get used to a new situation.  It may just take longer for him to settle in.

Have patience, you know how it goes--these adjustments are always on the cat's schedule, not ours.

Well, he's been at my apartment for almost seven months and just gets less and less cuddly. The official adoption is just what happened a month ago. The attention he wants is to play. ALWAYS play. I've had threads on here before, and have mostly gotten him to stop attacking me to try and engage in rough fighting. We play TONS, so he is not neglected. Whenever he gets tired (if he gets tired) he goes and sits on the floor and just watches me. He wants my company, just has lost all interest in being snuggly. So I thought maybe if he got less attention he'd try to come sit with me more often like he used to. Instead it appears he just runs around and stares at me, trying to get me to play.

Of course, last night he actually sat on the bed with me for a bit while I was awake and was trying to snuggle and purr all night. Probably because I made a post about it and he's a cat trying to prove me wrong.

There you go.

One of our cats likes to play constantly, too.  He's 7 now and hasn't slowed down any since he was a kitten.  We spend a lot of time playing DaBird with him, and throwing toys for him to catch, and make sure the catnip toys are fresh because he loves to bunny kick them.  He's not much of a snuggler, either, but I find that at night it's easiest to get him during a quiet time.  When he does decide to sit on my lap or near me, I just give him lots of petting and snuggling, when he wants it.

My issue is that he never really wants it when I'm awake. Like, ever (except for yesterday evening of course). I get this pair of excited eyes following me around the apartment waiting to play. Then randomly he's done and goes and sleeps in his little cat bed. It feels like I'm a cat entertainment system. SOMETIMES I can steal him when he's sleeping and he'll just go back to sleep next to me on the couch.

I ended up getting a Cat's Meow which has helped take some of the expectations off of me so I can actually get something done. I just want him to cuddle me at least once in awhile. I've put so much work into playing with him and training him and it feels like I haven't been getting much out of it. At least if he was just a lazy cat who didn't want to cuddle I wouldn't be entertaining him constantly.

My bottle baby kitty that I've had since he was 3 weeks old and is now over a year old doesnt cuddle with me at all any more. He stopped wanting to the bigger he got, and almost quit all together by 6 months old. I was actually in shock yesterday when he came and sat on me and fell asleep. It'll be months before something like that happens again, lol. I think maybe some cats just aren't cuddlers. :(
He likes me to pet his cheeks, head, and chin, but only a tiny bit at a time before he's done with me lol. It does make me sad but I got used to it and now I have a 5 month old kitten who loves her cuddles, and I'm paranoid she'll outgrow them, too. But in my cats case its not because i play with him too much, in fact its hard to get him to play with me these days, he'd rather wrestle with the kitten.

My cats favorite pets are anywhere on the head, but if I so much as lay next to him when hes laying he'll get up and leave me, hahaha.

It's so sad when they stop cuddling! Half the reason I loved him was that he was so cuddly! Now he's just kind of a jerk. But I love him and he loves me so and is involved in every single thing I do in the apartment.

My cats a jerk, too! He's mostly nice to me but sometimes out of nowhere will jump my son and bite him. :( Not sure if its because he is small or what, but either way its unwanted. I do miss him falling asleep on my chest. :(

Your cat is just being a cat.  I'll never understand how they can habitually do the same thing day after day, and then one day just stop.  They are vey independent creatures.  My 10 month old Maine Coon Lucy was very cuddly until a few weeks ago.  She sleeps near me at night and jumps on my legs and feet in the morning - presumably to wake me up, which it does.  Today she jumped on me twice for cuddling.  Who knows?  I certainly don't  I just enjoy what she gives me and enjoy her different traits.  I think her clawing at me and her bites, although I've always taken them to be non-aggressive and playful, are just her way of telling me its time to clip her nails - which I just did - only the three on one paw which she let me do before she got up and wandered off.  I'll do the others when I can

I love cats.

They're absolutely ridiculous. Of COURSE I kept playing with him and giving him tons of attention because he looks at me with his stupid adorable eyes, begging for me to throw the mouse. And then for the first time in a month he was sleeping on the bed next to me while I was on my laptop. He just likes making me look like a jerk. But he sure is cute.

I noticed this two with my two cats who has been with me since they were around 2 weeks old. When they were just big and strong enough to walk around  and climb thing they would always lay down on my bed when I go to sleep, sometimes on my pillow around my head.

They are about six months old now and they prefer to sleep on my dining table or on the floor.
